UNAIR NEWS – Social Fund Management Center (PUSPAS) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) officially collaborated with Indonesian Zakat Initiative (IZI). The inauguration of the collaboration marked by signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, May 24.
Located in the main hall of Ulul Azmi mosque, Prof. Mochammad Amin Alamsjah, Ir., M.Si., Ph.D. (Prof. Amin) UNAIR as vice rector III signed MoU with Nana Sudiana S.IP., M. M., (Nana) as director of IZI and also the secretary general of zakat organization forum. The signing witnessed by Dr. Tika Widiastuti, SE., M.Si. (Tika) as Head of PUSPAS UNAIR.
In this collaboration, IZI will assist UNAIR in education and zakat socialization in UNAIR. Namely, from the collection, management and distribution of zakat and the last is community empowerment.
“This is not the first collaboration between UNAIR and IZI. So far, IZI has also supported UNAIR by providing scholarships where 100% of recipients are UNAIR students, “said Tika.
According to Tika, zakat is an Islamic financial instrument that should be able to empower and prosper the people. For this reason, Tika hopes all of UNAIR academics will understand and immediately pay their zakat. In particular, pay zakat through PUSPAS.
“Zakat distributed through PUSPAS are for UNAIR. So, the impact of zakat management will be more significant, “explained Tika.
There are three ways to channel zakat through PUSPAS. First, by coming directly to PUSPAS. Second, by transfering the zakat. And the last thing is by utilizing the zakat pick-up facility.
“For picking up zakat, we have puspas friends who will come and collect the zakat ” Tika said.
Besides, Prof. Amin explained in his welcoming speech that optimization of zakat in Indonesia still needs to be improved by looking at the number of Muslims in Indonesia. He felt that PUSPAS and IZI and several other zakat institutions collaboration was very useful to optimize zakat in UNAIR.
“We warmly welcome this collaboration. Hopefully, the next collaboration will be better,” said Prof. Amen.
Before collaboratied with IZI, PUSPAS had also worked with several other zakat management institutions. Among them are National Zakat Amil Agency (Baznas), Dompet Dhuafa and National Alms Zakat Institution (LAZ) Al-Azhar.
