UNAIR NEWS – Muhammad Risyad Fahlefi is the Head of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Student Executive Board Period 2019-2020. The man who is known as Firman shared his story with UNAIR NEWS .

For Risyad, the meaning of being the Head of BEM is to return the trust been given by FISIP students to him. It will be implemented in the form of targets to be achieved.

There are two targets that he wants to achieve, creating progressivity in Faculty of Social and Political Sciences to external targets and internal targets. The external target is related to academic field such as organizing international conference.

“Even though organizing international conference requires large funds, we (BEM FISIP, ed) will try to manage it,” he said.

Meanwhile, the internal target is to advocate programs such as competitions, Student Association (HIMA) fund, work program funds, and renovation of space such as the Student Center (SC) in FISIP. The renovation is very important, because students will feel more comfortable and at home while doing activities.

The alumnus of SMAN 6 Surabaya had actively participated in the organization from the beginning such as in Islamic Spirituality Unit  (SKI), BEM UNAIR, and BEM FISIP UNAIR.

According to Rasyid, the organization is very important to sharpen soft skills, one of them is leadership. In this disruption era, everyone is required to have the skills to compete.

“Nowadays (disruption era, ed) everything is online, many jobs are replaced or controlled by machines. However, jobs like being a regent, governor and president cannot be replaced by a machine. So, that’s why we need to hone soft skills so that we can fill jobs that require genuine human power, “he added.

Rasyid continued, students must go through the process seriously. However, students should not forget their academic responsibilities. FISIP students should maintain their culture as pioneers of students’ movement and have awareness to social and political problems.

“So that they are not underestimated, FISIP students must show their awareness in real life,” he said. (*)
