UNAIR NEWS – “Students should set priorities and manage their time to study and joining in competition. Thus, student can give outstanding achievements.” That was the expression of Dewi Santoso Yuniarti, an outstanding graduate in Faculty of Law Universitas Airlangga for the period of March 2019.
The student who was familiarly called Dewi succeeded in bringing UNAIR’s name on international scale with joining Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition in Washington D.C. United States, held by International Law Students Association (ILSA). Dewi became one of Indonesia’s representatives by setting aside 24 campuses in Indonesia and winning Top 36, 1st Runner-Up, and 3rd Best Oralist in Jessup National Rounds 2018.
“Two leading teams were representatives of the country in Washington D.C,” she explained.
The student who was born in Malang on June 17, 1997 said the preparation for the competition began 8-10 months before the competition with delegation selection. After that, the delegation team prepared on the topic and compile a written document called a memorial, which contains arguments and the basis of international law.
Furthermore, the team should learn oral advocacy, which is an advocacy presentation as lawyer to defend the country in particular topic.
“2018 was the first time of UNAIR delegation team has qualified for international round in United States. We previously had no idea how to compete against more than 120 of the country’s best representatives, “she added.
In addition, Dewi was also a representative of Indonesia in ALSA International Investment Arbitration Moot, Asian international investment law competition in Yangon, Myanmar. She also had the opportunity to take part in Asian Undergraduate Summit program, a student exchange program and conference in Southeast Asia held by National University of Singapore in 2017.
“I am grateful to be a FH UNAIR student, I had the opportunity to take part in competitions at national and international scale, and increase broader knowledge about state law and the opportunity to have connections with jurists from various countries,” she concluded. (*)
