UNAIR and TNI AL Create Sinergy to Improve Education, Research and Community Service

UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga and Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Navy (AL) agreed on a number of cooperation related to education improvement. The agreement was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at Surabaya Naval Technology College (STTAL) on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

Vice Rector III of Universitas Airlangga Prof. Dr. Mochammad Amin Alamsjah, Ir., M.Si., Ph.D., from UNAIR and First Admiral TNI Ir. Avando Bastari, M.Phil as Commander of the Naval Technology College (STTAL) attended the meeting and signing the MoU. Improving education through training, research, and the development of science and community service were the focus of the discussion.

To UNAIR NEWS team, Prof. Dr. Amin confirmed a number of cooperation agreements. The collaboration and cooperation according to Prof. Dr. Amin have actually been established long enough. However, this time the meeting marked a stronger and better elaboration.

“With the form of collaboration in the field of education and training, also research and community service, “he said.

Prof. Dr. Amin explained, there are several things that can be done in the future by utilizing the potential that exists in both institutions, UNAIR and STTAL.

“Starting from the service sector, also education, research and several other fields. It also supports the competence improvement from students, lecturers, and staffs, “he added.

Based on the memorandum of understanding, there were a number of things agreed upon, such as cooperation in the field of education and training, including, improvement of abilities, experience, and skills related to maritime affairs.

“Exchange of expert is needed to support the implementation of basic tasks,” he said.

The collaboration is also in the field of maritime science and technology research and development, including marine, utilization and dissemination of research and development as well as exchange of scientific information.

The last is the field of community service in forms of counseling to the community, especially maritime communities. It includes community activities in the field of aquatic sports, maritime tourism, Saka Bahari scouting, and other activities to increase awareness on marine and state defense.

“Maybe later there will also be a kind of service collaboration in remote areas of Indonesia with the TNI. Because, TNI also serves in remote areas. So, we focus on education and health, they will later empower the community, “he said.

“In addition, we also have Ksatria Airlangga Floating Hospital which also focuses on handling cases in the outermost and remote areas of Indonesia. It also have potential for further collaboration, “he added. (*)
