UNAIR NEWS – Raising illegal wildlife trade issues, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) holds a public lecture on Indonesia Says No! Illegal Wildlife Trade. Located at Tandjung Adiniwinata FKH UNAIR Room, the event was held on Saturday, February 16, 2019.
Dean of FKH, Prof. Dr. Drh. Pudji Srianto, M.Kes in his remarks said that FKH UNAIR appreciated all of the parties that involved in here because they held unusual activities for FKH UNAIR students.
He stated all this time FKH UNAIR was keen to study diseases in animals. However, there was also animal protection in the course.
“In Indonesia, there are eleven Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and in UNAIR is the fourth institution in establishing FKH. So far, we focused on animal diseases, but it turned out that wildlife trade is also important, thus we also learn about it, “said the Dean of FKH.
In the event, Head of Profauna Indonesia, Rosek Nursahid familiary called Rosek enlivened the enthusiasm of participants with his loud voice that echoed in Tandjung Adiniwinata’s room.
Rosek highlighted some irresponsible individuals who have protected wildlife as their pet, with an excuse to preserve the animals. But in fact, there are still many of them who are careless regarding to the goverment regulation.
“For example, I found a case about selling wild animals (protected, ed) and the person is a student. Well, students are educated academic, how could student can do illegal wildlife trade?”
Meanwhile, there were drh. Dwi Suprapti from Marine Species Coordinator in WWF-Indonesia, Beny Bastiawan as Head of Jabalnusra Gakkum, Muchammad Yunus as Parasitology Lecturer in FKH UNAIR, and AKP Heru Purnomo S.I.K from Kanit 1 Tipidter East Java Regional Police.
