UNAIR NEWS – A tsunami that struck Sunda Strait on Saturday, December 22 caused losses and casualties in Banten and South Lampung. The impact can still be seen until now.

Therefore, the Student Family and Student Association of each program at UNAIR PSDKU Banyuwangi held a fundraising event to help people in Banten and South Lampung. The fundraising was held on Thursday, December 26 in Banyuwangi city area.

Elzam Rachmadi, the person in charge of the fundraising activity explained that one of UNAIR Banyuwangi students resides in the South Lampung area. Therefore, as a family, they are obliged to help each other.

“Yesterday I got the news, there are PSDKU students who live in South Lampung. After I confirmed it, Alhamdulillah  the family survived. But we continue to raise funds for victims there, “he said.

The aim of KM collaborating with HIMA for the fundraising is so they could collect more, and also the aid will be sent later collectively on behalf of PSDKU UNAIR Banyuwangi, not on behalf of each student organization (ormawa).

The fundraising activity was focused on Banyuwangi community. Because it was during holiday, it is not possible to rely on UNAIR Banyuwangi academics.

With the help from Banyuwangi native students and some students who happened to be in Banyuwangi, they went to various points in the city of Banyuwangi to raise funds from the community.

“On 26th yesterday, we went to various spots such as Blambangan Park, Sritanjung Park, Blambangan market, and Sobo traffic lights, “Elzam added.

The results of the fundraising activities for victims of Sunda Strait disaster will later be submitted to UNAIR Mahagana (Disaster response student) team and UNAIR Student Executive Board. Mahagana UNAIR together with BEM UNAIR will go directly to the disaster location so that the assistance collected can be given to the casualties.

Elzam also explained that the fundraising activities were not only carried out once on Thursday, but also held on Sunday, December 30 at several different points. The second day was held in Blambangan park, Cungking red light, and Penataban traffic light.

” I hope the aid collected can be useful and can help those affected by the tsunami in the Sunda Strait. Aamiin, “said Elzam. (*)
