UNAIR NEWS – The Ministry of Community Service of Student Executive Board (BEM) Universitas Airlangga 2018 held Airlangga Urban Social Community Award (AUSCA) 2.0. An activity that aims to reward communities in Indonesia who have contributed more to the welfare of society.
In addition, in this activity, an essay competition on Community Development was also held . In the competition, BEM UNAIR facilitated students throughout Indonesia to promote their ideas in developing potential and solving problems in Jolosutro Village. Not only that, participants were also invited to visit Jolosutro Village to apply their ideas on Monday, November 19 to Wednesday, November 21.
Luthfi Akmal Muzakki, the chief executive of the activity, explained that the initiative to invite the finalists to visit the target village was so that the ideas from the finalists were not only in the form of papers. However, their ideas can be directly practiced to the community.
“We invited them (finalists, ed) to the target village so that they can implement their work directly. Also, to introduce BEM UNAIR assisted villages to essay finalists from various regions, “said the Islamic economics student who is familiarly called Luthfi.
Ten teams have the right to implement their works. However, one of them, namely the team from the Islamic University of North Sumatra could not attend the event.
Far from expectations, finalists were so enthusiastic to take part in the event. Almost all finalists attended the entire series of activities. Even though they have to live with all the limitations and simplicity, mingle and live together with the people in Jolosutro Village.
On Friday, November 23 the finalists presented their work in front of the jury. Then, the results of the assessment will be announced at the peak of the AUSCA event on Saturday, November 24 which is packaged in the form of a national seminar.
“After the activities in Jolosutro, I hope that the finalists who are students can better understand the third Tri Dharma of higher education, namely direct community service,” he said.
“You can also feel how to live in remote communities far from urban areas with many obstacles. For example, there is a lack of telecommunications because there are no towers in Jolosutro Village, “Luhtfi added. (*)
