UNAIR NEWS – Marking its 64 years of existence for Indonesia’s progress through education, Universitas Airlangga continues in preparing youth genberation to face challenges in the future. One of the efforts was manifested in a scientific discussion entitled National Seminar themed “Campus and Industrial Revolution 4.0” on Tuesday, 13 November.
Being held at Garuda Mukti Hall, 5th Floor, Management Office Campus C, the seminar was a part of 64th Anniversary of UNAIR celebration. The discussion was one of the responses to current issue regarding Industrial Revolution 4.0.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Ignasius Jonan who is also an UNAIR alumnus was presented in this seminar. Being Keynote Speaker in the seminar, Jonan discussed changes in economic world landscape. Currently, technology based start-up companies dominate market. For example, Apple, Microsoft, and Google.
According to Jonan, Industrial Revolution 4.0 must be faced. One of the responses to that challenge started from university. Researching and discussing current situation is important.
“Industrial Revolution 4.0 has arrived. We must faced it, “he said.
After Jonan gave a review related to the Industrial Revolution 4.0, the seminar continued with two sessions. The first session presented by two presenters, Prof. Dr. Anita Lie, M.A., Ed.D., Professor of Universitas Widya Mandala, and Prof. Dr. Bagong Suyanto, Drs., M.Si., moderated by Airlangga Pribadi, Ph.D.
Meanwhile, in second session, three speakers also came from government figures. There were Drs. Samsul Widodo, M.A., Director General of Development of Disadvantaged Areas; Dr. Emil Elestianto Dardak, M.Sc., Vice Governor of East Java; and Prof. Dr. Sri Adiningsih, an economist and Head of Presidential Advisory Council. The second session was moderated by Dr. Herlambang Perdana W.
Meanwhile, Head of Academic Senate UNAIR Prof. Dr. Joewono Soeroso, dr., Sp.PD-KR., FINASIM., In his speech stated that university has a strategic position in preparing youth generation to face social change. Therefore, the seminar was very important in discussing current situation.
Participants in this seminar were students, both from inside and outside UNAIR. The seminar aims to provide an overview steps in facing 4.0 Industrial Revolution.
“So we can prepare ourselves in the future and take advantage from Industrial Revolution 4.0 as an opportunity,” said Prof. Yuwono. (*)
