UNAIR NEWS – There is still high prevalence of cleft lip and cleft palate case in Indonesia. In some areas, this case is still not optimally handled. This is related to the limited costs and energy.
To answer this problem, on September 13-16, 2018, the social service for cleft lip and cleft palate surgery was held in Bima City, West Nusa Tenggara. The event was held in Bima City Hospital, Jl. Langsat, Bima sponsored by KemenristekDikti, Seribu Cinta Foundation (YSC), PHC Hospital and NTB Bank.
In collaboration with the governments of Bima Regency and Bima Hospital, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of Faculty of Dental Medicine (FKG) Universitas Airlangga managed to treat 20 patients. There were 9 patients for cleft palate surgery, 9 patients for cleft lip surgery, 2 patients for improvement surgery of cleft lip.
Described by the Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program, Dr. Ni Putu Mira Sumarta, drg., Sp.BM (K), the team’s departure was carried out several times. This humanitarian activity involved senior staff of oral and maxillofacial surgery FKG UNAIR, dental specialists for oral and maxillofacial surgery.
In addition, there were also general surgery specialists, senior anesthetic doctors from anesthesiology and reanimation specialists, anesthetic nurses, and senior staff of oral and maxillofacial surgery of affiliated hospitals. In the events, there were preparation, surgery and post-surgery treatments.
