UNAIR NEWS – Pamela Handy Cecilia won first place in Universitas Airlangga Outstanding Student Selection (Mawapres UNAIR). The event was held online by the Directorate of Student Affairs (Dirmawa) UNAIR on May 10, 2021.
Pamela admitted that becoming UNAIR Outstanding Student was her dream since she was a freshmen. She wanted to realize her dream. Thus, she began to find out what is needed to become an outstanding student.
To become an outstanding student, students do not only need to have many achievements. Several other aspects such as experiences in international conferences, organizations, and publication of scientific articles in Scopus indexed journals are also required. That was what Pamela prepared since then.
“Since freshman, I have been actively participating in competitions, organizations, and writing various scientific articles. The goal is that when the Outstanding Student selection is started, I will be ready for it,” she said. She did it in a well-balanced manner with already set priorities.
Pamela also shared some tips for becoming Outstanding Student. According to her, the most important thing is to prepare as early as possible. “Your early steps (although only one step), will probably determine the success,” she explained.
The journey to achieve dreams is not easy, it demands strong determination and will. Like Pamela, these two things have always been her motivation, especially when she started to lose focus.
The success she has achieved now does not mean that she is far from failures. “One thing is for sure, failure is a stepping stone to make us better individuals and lead to success,” she said. Remembering her family’s struggles so far is her way to rise from failure and become her drive to achieve success.
The girl born in 2000 realized that failures make us down and we tend to blame ourselves. But in her opinion, the most important thing is to work sincerely without expecting a beautiful ending. “If we fall, then continue to do the best we can, get up and let God decide the end result,” she added.
Even though she has now achieved her dream of becoming an Outstanding Student, she wants to achieve her other goals, including in her career.
With her two colleagues, Pamela has developed a dental equipment business called Aether Dental Store. In the future, she hoped she could work with several other dentistry students who have problems in getting equipment. Furthermore, Pamela also wants to have a talkshow on oral health that can reach all members of society.
Meanwhile, regarding her preparation for the National Outstanding Student selection from May to August, Pamela has prepared everything. “I hope prayers from all my friends so I can take part in the selection until the end of August and give the best results for our beloved alma mater, Universitas Airlangga,” concluded the student of the Faculty of Dental Medicine, Universitas Airlangga (FKG UNAIR).
UNAIR, as one of the best universities in Indonesia, encourages all students to excel at regional, national and international levels. (*)
