UNAIR NEWS – Being able to participate in educational programs or activities abroad, such as Asia, Africa, even Europe, seems to be one thing most wanted by students during their studies. Universitas Airlangga, through Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE), opened the opportunity for students to participate in the international program from student exchange and double degree program.

Airlangga Global Engagement Deputy Dina Septiani PhD mentioned that participating in student exchange programs can increase students’ ability to adapt, be tolerant, open-minded, and have independent personalities, including gaining experience and self-value.

“Many students who participated in exchange often feel addicted and want to try again,” she said at Airlangga Education Expo (AEE) on Saturday, February 19, 2022, via ZOOM.

Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE)

UNAIR encouraged students to be active and participative in international programs. Students can find international programs’ information through AGE. From scholarship opportunities information, logistic support, teaching to building capacities, and health support.

“AGE also holds GWC (Global Writing Clinic), Info Session, and communication space,” she said.

Furthermore, UNAIR, through Pusat Bahasa and Multibudaya (Pusbamulya), opened a program to improve English language skills, including other foreign languages.

Top five countries

The Communication Department lecturer of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) said, five top countries made UNAIR the destination of their international program so far. They are Malaysia, Myanmar, Timor Leste, Yemen, and Pakistan.

There are also students from other Asian regions, such as Thailand, China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore.

“There are even students from Europe, namely the Netherlands, Germany, and England. Also from Australia,” she expressed.

Tips on participating International Program

To those interested in international programs, Dina suggested actively seeking information. Then, after two years in university, start to complete compulsory courses, prepare a passport, and hone English language skills.

“To get higher TOEFL test score,” she mentioned.

However, Dina continued that not all student exchange programs required a specific TOEFL score. “The main points are intention, determination, and strong will. There must be a way,” she said.

Short Exchange & Semester Exchange

Dina explained student exchange is open to every study program. Based on the duration, the programs are divided into two: namely, short program and semester exchange.

“There are free and paid short programs. The implementation is relatively short, can be online or offline,” she said.

Furthermore, semester exchange duration can reach one semester long. Amerta, AUN-ACTS, IISMA Kampus Merdeka, and Erasmus are examples.

Double Degree

Moreover, Dina added, UNAIR has an International double degree program. There are nine international study programs for undergraduates included in the International Undergraduate Program (IUP), Medicine, Dental Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Psychology, Law, Accounting, Management, and Islamic Economics. Detailed information can be accessed through IUP UNAIR’s page.

“Don’t be afraid, and don’t worry. Just check out global.unair.ac.id website. Or visit AGE’s office at 2nd Floor Rectorate Campus C. Follow Global UNAIR social media account to check information early on,” Dina delivered. (*)
