UNAIR NEWS – Defense Strategic Agency of Ministry of Defense held a hearing with Universitas Airlangga about the impact of covid-19. The event was held in UNAIR Campus C Rector Meeting Room on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.
Attending to represent UNAIR Rector was Vice Rector for Internationalization, Digitalization and Information Muhammad Miftahussurur, dr. M.Kes., Sp.PD-KGEH., Ph.D. On that occasion, dr. Miftah stated that in handling covid-19, UNAIR has done its best. Not only in the realm of Surabaya but also for East Java and Indonesia.
“Many experts were involved in handling this pandemic, both from RSUA, Dr Soetomo Regional Hospital, and many experts have been in the Covid task force team. Apart from that, from the initial detection process, prevention, treatment, to vaccine being developed are also evidences that in handling this pandemic, UNAIR continues to do its best, “he said.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Ignasius Eko Djoko Purwanto, SE, MM., From the Defense Strategic Agency, as the Head of Information and Defense Strategy Center, Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, is very enthusiastic about the role that UNAIR has played. According to him, his visit with the entourage was aimed at collecting data and materials that would become a study on the threat of Covid-19 to Indonesia’s defense.
“The materials obtained will be processed in formulating a national defense strategy. In the past, biological viruses seemed far away, but now they are really real. It was raised with the consideration that Covid threatens the defense of the nation, “he explained.
Furthermore, in his next presentation, he also emphasized that in defense institutions there is a discussion that the corona virus is a way to weaken a nation. Viral weapon, he said, is cheaper than other conventional weapons.
“This is a special concern for the security sector. Indonesia must make this a valuable lesson because in the future, biological virus weapons are not impossible to happen again in the future, ”he said.
Meanwhile, there were several UNAIR experts attending from Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Public Health, Institute for Tropical Diseases, and UNAIR Hospital. All of them provide a description on things that have been done and the development of the handling of the pandemic from the beginning in March 2020 to the present.
