UNAIR NEWS – The number of patients of Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia continues to increase. Some doctors and nurses even have died on duty due to lack of personal protective equipment (PPE). The rising number of victims is indeed not proportional to the number of PPE available at Covid-19 referral hospital.

Including in East Java, due to the lack of PPE, some medical personnel have to wear raincoats as personal protection from Covid-19.

In this regard, several lines of community work hand in hand to help others. The same was done by UNAIR Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Senor Siblings. A fundraising was initiated by alumni from the FKM UNAIR Senor Siblings to provide PPE aid for medical staff.

“On this occasion we are trying to provide additional PPE assistance for medical personnel at Covid-19 referral hospital. This is also a response to see the urgency of PPE stock for medical personnel as a vulnerable group because they have to make contact with patients, “explained Adam as the coordinator.

The humanitarian action has been raised since Saturday. March 28, 2020. The fundraising which was opened for two weeks raised more than Rp 23 million in cash and several medical equipment, such as hand sanitizer and alcohol swab.

The fundraising results on Thursday, April 16, 2020 were then distributed to a number of Covid-19 referral hospitals in East Java, such as in Jemursari Hospital Surabaya; Lavalette Hospital Malang; Sidoarjo Regency Hospital; dr. Soedoro Madiun, Dr. Soebandi General Hospital Jember; Kediri Regency Hospital; RSUD dr. Soegiri Lamongan until RSUD dr. Haryoto Lumajang.

“This is a form of our support to all medical personnel who are struggling to stay protected from the dangers of Covid-19,” Adam said.

Adam said that humanitarian action would continue and hoped that Covid-19 pandemic would end soon. “This fundraising will continue to be opened to provide aid to hospitals in the form of food and multivitamins. We also hope more and more good people out there will be moved to help others and hopefully Covid-19 will be finished soon, “he concluded. (*)
