UNAIR NEWS – Lana Faiqoh Zahiroh, a student of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) became one of the volunteers in Education Social Program held for four days in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“I first filled out the registration with administrative requirements, CV, and motivation letter for being one of the program volunteers. I also had to explain what the strength and weakness I have. Alhamdulillah, I was chosen in Top 100 out of 450 registrants,” Lana said.

The activity was organized by the Indonesian Young Leaders Expedition (IYLE) which is an organization for students to cultivate a leadership spirit through international scale expedition and exploration activities.

“We also made some projects that would be applied where we would become volunteers later, if I focused on education, so the projects that I proposed were also about teaching. Besides, I am happy to be able to volunteer to other countries because I can see different cultures from Indonesia,” she added.

Lana said that there were very striking differences in education, Malaysia which is a neighboring country of Indonesia had developed so rapidly in terms of education compared to our own country. In terms of facilities and public transportation also looks well-structured and neat. For her, it was a very valuable experience because she could learn from other countries.

“I learned a lot of things while here, even things as simple as their environment and cleanliness. Furthermore, I am very happy to be able to teach children, “said the Sociology student.

One of the agendas of Education Social Program was held at University of Kebangsaan Malaysia which is one of the best universities in Malaysia. It makes her even grateful to be one of the volunteers.

“The most memorable activity, in my opinion, was when visiting the Rohingya School, seeing children who were so cheerful enjoying their play and learning. Through this activity I know a lot of great and extraordinary people, ” she added.

Lana said that it was her first time participating in a volunteer activity abroad, where she learned a lot and met colleagues with more experiences in similar program. She felt happy and hoped that in the future she would be able to take part in more overseas activities. The program was held from Wednesday, January 15, to Saturday, January 18, 2020. (*)
