UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) invited its alumni from Bali, Luh Mery Widhayanti. S.KM, in a book discussion event held at the Central Gazebo FKM UNAIR, Wednesday, October 2, 2019. The event was held at 3 PM and was attended by about 20 students and also alumni. The moderator was Ilham Akhsanu Ridlo S.KM., M.Kes as a lecturer at FKM UNAIR from the Department of Health Administration and Policy (AKK).
Luh Merry Widhayanti. S.KM, known as Mery, reviewed her book entitled “Journey of the Heart” which tells her stories during Nusantara Jaya Expedition community service program. The book review event was interesting as Mery told her unique experience.
“I wrote this book manually because in Masalembu area we cannot use a laptop, electricity only available from evening to night, so every incident must be written daily in the diary,” she added.
In her presentation, Mery said she wrote the book when she was working on her thesis proposal. She was anxious whether finishing her study quickly or participating the activity. She also admitted that her love for community service activities began when she participated in the Community Service Program (KKN) in the previous semester.
At the discussion session, Dr. Ernawaty drg., M. Kes, as Mery’s supervisor, said that students must do more community service activities to gain insights.
“I did not know if it’s Mery, because what I know is that she is Balinese, but when she returned she spoke using Madura accent she got while she was in Masalembu, Sumenep,” she explained.
At the end of the event, a book “Journey of the Heart” was awarded to the most active participant during the discussion, the book discussion was closed with a hospitality session with alumni and a group photo session. The event was also the beginning of Book Literacy Club at FKM UNAIR. (*)
