UNAIR NEWS – The target of 500 best universities carried out by Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) encourages all faculties to increase journal publications and accreditation, especially for Scopus indexed journals. In 2019, UNAIR Faculty of Public Health (FKM) succeeded in increasing the accreditation of national scientific journals issued by Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristek Dikti).

FKM UNAIR has ten journals. In addition, nine journals in FKM UNAIR Surabaya and one journal in FKM UNAIR PSDKU Banyuwangi. Nine journals in FKM UNAIR Surabaya have been nationally accredited by SINTA (accreditation status level by Kemenristek Dikti), previously only five journals. FKM UNAIR managed to occupy the status of SINTA2 4 journals, SINTA3 3 journals and SINTA4 2 journals.

From nine SINTA accredited journals, six of them were DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals). DOAJ can be defined as  scientific journals with high quality standards and can be accessed openly, even internationally.

Furthermore in 2019, FKM UNAIR planned coaching clinic program to public health journal in Kuala Lumpur, ASEAN Pacific Journal of Public Health (APJPH). Considering, there is no public health journal in Indonesia that has succeeded in getting Scopus indexation.

Through coaching clinic with Prof. Wahyunlo at APJPH, FKM UNAIR journal expected to gain new networks with APACPH (Asia Pacific Consortium for Public Health) members. Through APACPH activities, FKM UNAIR is expected to introduce these journals for international academics.

In the end, Ira advised UNAIR academic community to start publishing their research results. The publication can be through journals that can be easily accessed by the public.

“Research must be introduced to the public to improve public health in the future,” she concluded.
