UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) Universitas Airlangga held the 107th Pharmacist Oath Pronunciation Ceremony on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. The ceremony was held in Multipurpose Room, Faculty of Pharmacy, Campus C UNAIR, Mulyorejo, Surabaya.
There were 17 new pharmacists inaugurated. Some UNAIR leaders were present such as Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy UNAIR Dr. Umi Athiyah MS .; UNAIR Vice Rector III Prof. Ir. Mochamad Amin Alamsyah, M.Si., Ph.D, and Yusuf Dettie Yuliati as representatives of Indonesian Pharmacists Association (IAI) Central Management (PP).
In his remarks, Dr. Umi said that the current pharmacists are facing the era of disruption. The information and technology development is very rapid. On the other hand, public knowledge about pharmacists is still very lacking.
“This is the duty of pharmacists to convey their knowledge to the public,” she said.
Dr. Umi added that pharmacists play a very important role, from the stage of making the medicine, preparing the medicine, until the medicine reaches the patient’s hand and provides a therapeutic effect. Pharmacists must be able to convey drug knowledge to the public.
“Information about medicine that it can become drugs and medicine depends on the purpose and method of use. Pharmacists must monitor drug use in the community so there won’t be misuse and abuse,” he said.
In addition, said Dr. Umi, pharmacists must continue to fill the entire territory of Indonesia, practicing all of their scientific knowledge to serve Indonesian people. The goal is so that all people can get quality, fair and equitable health services.
“It should not be discriminated and must be evenly distributed and comprehensive,” she said.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector III Prof. Ir. Mochamad Amin Alamsyah, M.Si., Ph.D., who represented UNAIR Rector stated a number of important things to the 17 pharmacists, such as pharmacists are encouraged to uphold UNAIR values and health.
“The new pharmacists are expected to uphold their oath. Pharmacists must be able to explain about medicine, how to use them with rational prescribing,” he said.
UNAIR pharmacist, said Prof. Amin, must be able to contribute greatly in the community especially in the midst of community problems with medicine.
“Pharmacists are asked to continue working in accordance with all the knowledge obtained from Universitas Airlangga, by upholding the values developed by UNAIR, Excellence with Morality, “he concluded. (*)
