UNAIR NEWS – Flood in Madiun Regency was quite devastating. A lot of public facilities and some properties were damaged and lost. It was an inevitable disaster experienced by people of Madiun and its surroundings.

As a form of responsibility in implementing Higher Education Tri Dharma, the Ministry of Community Service of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) BEM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) conducted a fundraising on Wednesday, March 13, 2019. The fundraising held at the junction of Jalan Karang Menjangan shown students’ concern for others, as well as a form of response to natural disasters.

“The response from students and people of Surabaya was very good. Even though it was only lasted for two hours, thank God, the fund collected was quite good, ” said Manuel Agri Laksana Pangaribuan, Minister of Community Services, BEM FISIP UNAIR.

“There has not been any BEM FISIP UNAIR community services held on disaster site so far, as their management was just established one and a half month ago,” he said.

Actually, FISIP’s concern for flood in Madiun was not the first time. After the news about the flood in Madiun broke out, BEM FISIP UNAIR responded quickly and responsibly. Three days before the fundraising, BEM FISIP UNAIR also made donation boxes available at the corners of FISIP campus.

Meanwhile, for the funds that have been collected, Community Service of BEM FISIP UNAIR will immediately distribute the aid. It will consider the site conditions as well.

“We have cooperated with a community care institution. Usually we distribute the aid through the institution. But if there is an opportunity, we will go directly to the site, ” he said.

Agri emphasized that the people support for this movement cannot be described through words. No matter how small the form of support from people will worth greatly.

“Because naturally, as students, we must have the spirit of community service,” he explained. (*)
