UNAIR Rector encourages professors to continue and develop research

UNAIR NEWS – In the end of 2020 Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a professorship inauguration. There was an open assembly by Universitas Airlangga for the inauguration of professors on Wednesday, December 30, at Garuda Mukti Hall UNAIR Management Office.

The three professors inaugurated were Prof. Dr. Nike Hendrijantini, drg., M.Kes., Sp.Pros. (K.), Professor of Prosthodontics, Faculty of Dental Medicine; Prof. Dr. Titiek Berniyanti M.Kes., Professor of Public Dental Health, Faculty of Dental Medicine; and Prof. Tjitjik Srie Tjahjandarie, Dra., Ph.D., Professor of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology.

On that occasion, UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Moh. Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., CMA., said that in many ways professorship is considered as the highest achievement in the academic career. However, as an academic, a professorship is the beginning of a long journey.

“Because through professorship, we are starting the initial stage, legitimate way to be called intellectuals, in addition to a doctoral degree. The position of professor shows wisdom and knowledge, “he said.

Furthermore, Prof. Nasih also emphasized that a scholar has a difficult task. Scholars must continue to develop their knowledge and utilize knowledge for the progress of the nation, state and the welfare of the people.

The rector also expects the professors can continue and develop knowledge in their respective fields for the benefit of mankind. Academics, he continued, should be very optimistic and proud to continue achieving things wanted from the beginning based on morals and religion.

“It is not enough to develop science alone, but we must select and sort out the knowledge that must have meaning, must have benefits, must have a function for the welfare and glory of civilization. It must be done earnestly by a professor, “he said.

Three new professors

The three newly inaugurated professors then delivered their scientific oration. First, Prof. Dr. Nike Hendrijantini delivered a scientific oration on “Tissue Regeneration, The Future of Dental Restoration in Efforts to Improve the Quality of Women’s Health”. She offers a concept of teeth replacement or missing or defect maxillofacial tissue with a bio-compatible artificial device or prosthesis.

Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Titiek Berniyanti M.Kes., delivered an oration on “Environmental Health and Dental Care in Pandemic Period”. It was explained that the study of environmental health aspects is expected to create a healthy environment for the population by using the five existing theories.

In the end, Prof. Tjitjik Srie Tjahjandarie delivered the speech “Bio-prospects of East Indonesian Endemic Plants as Source of Drug Candidates in Efforts to Improve Health Resilience”. In drug development, success in obtaining active compounds from natural material must begin with the process of selecting medicinal plants with high potential as drug candidates, such as drugs for cancer and malaria.
