UNAIR NEWS – On Monday, January 31, the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) UNAIR and the Environmental Agency (DLH) of Nganjuk Regency held dissemination and assistance of climate village programs in Senjayan Village, Nganjuk Regency, East Java.

The event with public guest lecture held at Senjayan Village Hall was also broadcast through FKM UNAIR ZOOM and YouTube channels. The event presented several competent speakers in their fields with the theme “Climate Change, Mitigation Adaptation, and Environmental Management in Climate Village Program (Proklim) Implementation.”.

H. Hidayat S.Ag., M.Si. as a representative of Commission D of the Nganjuk Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) attended the event. He said that the rising global temperatures due to increased carbon emissions has a very significant impact on the ecosystems on earth. Moreover, the problem of plastic waste is getting worse.

“If it is not addressed immediately, then it is not impossible that our children and grandchildren tomorrow won’t be able to experience what we experienced at this time,” he added.

Therefore, he urged to make small changes such as reducing the use of motor vehicles, minimizing disposable goods, and learning to utilize waste.

“And the village must be a pioneer to instill it in the community, therefore hopefully this cooperation, a good start, can be a long series of activities so that Senjayan Village can become a Climate Village,” he hoped.

Proklim (Climate Village Program) is a national program from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK) to increase the involvement of the community and other stakeholders to strengthen adaptation capacity to the effects of climate change (-Ed). Proklim (Climate Village Program) can be implemented in the lowest administrative region (RW) or the highest (village).

Drs. Subani, MM representative of Environmental Agency (DLH) Nganjuk Regency, appreciated UNAIR’s step, and hoped the collaboration could make proklim (Climate Village Program) a success in Nganjuk Regency in particular. He hoped that through the collaboration, Senjayan Village, which has received the title of Berseri (Radiant) Village, can continue to grow to become a pioneer for other villages.

“We hope proklim can instill the right mindset of the community, and it can create a comfortable, clean, well-organized environment and of course healthy for all village communities,” he concluded.

Furthermore, Trias Mahmudiono, SKM., MPH., GCAS., Ph.D. Vice Dean III FKM UNAIR hoped that cross-sectoral collaboration could further foster the spirit to solve environmental problems. As an education institution, the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) is always ready to support all forms of programs that seek to build a healthy society.

“This is also one form of our contributions as academics and university in realizing a healthy society in terms of environment, nutrition, and health,” he explained on behalf of the Dean of FKM.
