UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga continues to provide opportunities for all scientists to collaborate and produce several research outcomes that can be used for mutual benefit. This time, it was realized through Marine Biotechnology ASEAN Network on Microbial Utilization (AnMicro) Workshop.
The workshop is held from October 8 to 10, at the Institute of Tropical Disease (LPT) Campus C UNAIR. The head of the committee, Prof. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, Drs., M.Si. opened the event. In her speech, Prof. Nyoman said that UNAIR and ASEAN Network on Microbial Utilization held a Marine Biotechnology AnMicro Workshop as a form and effort to apply various research results on marine biotechnology.
“The output of this activity can be a reference for organizing community service events in terms of marine affairs in the future,” said Prof. Nyoman.
UNAIR Rector, Prof. Nasih in his remarks said that he believed that in the future there will be a stronger relationship between academics, scientists, universities and institutions.
“By working together, we will unite global scientists to work not only for science but also for the benefit and health of society,” he said.
Meanwhile, as the first speaker, Prof. Dr. Ocky Karna Radjasa, M.Sc., as the Director of Research and Community Service at Kemenrisrtek-Dikti reviewed the “Contribution of Marine Biotechnology for Community Development”. According to him, various government policies are needed to encourage related institutions to optimize the role of marine biotechnology.
“All of it requires policy, innovation, quality research from institutions, and most importantly campus collaboration with the industrial world,” he explained.
Futhermore, to optimize further the role of marine biotechnology for the benefit of society, the government and universities have provided various access through various policies such as the Community Partnership Program (PKM), the Entrepreneurship Development Program (PPK), the Village Partner Development Program, and various mutually beneficial policies.
“I hope this elaboration can illustrate the future and help in determining the policy steps in development and community service,” he said.
Furthermore, as the second speaker, Prof. Dr. Hisashi Ichikawa from Nagasaki University reviewed about “Improved Utilization and Avaliability of Fish Paste Production by Using Fish from Lake Victoria”.
In his presentation, Prof. Hisashi talked more about the condition of the population that depends on Lake Victoria for managing fish. In addition, he also highlighted various models of ways done by local residents do in managing their fishing affairs, either those who fish in the traditional way and those who fish in a modern way.
