UNAIR NEWS – SARS-CoV-2, which first appeared in Wuhan, has caused the Covid-19 pandemic in various parts of the world. As a result, various sectors of human life are disrupted. Responding to this phenomenon, Universitas Airlangga‘s researchers have created various innovations to handle Covid-19.

UNAIR’s Start-up Business and Incubation Development Board (BPBRIN) has a vital role in developing these innovation products. BPBRIN supports the downstream processes of UNAIR innovation products, start-up business development, business incubation, technology transfer, and business development and marketing run by UNAIR.

Mahendra Tri Arif Sampurna, dr., SpA as Secretary of BPBRIN, said at least 15 UNAIR innovations related to Covid-19 handling. In the development process, UNAIR collaborates with various related partners. “Some of these innovation products have received funding from the LPDP (Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education) issued by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Health,” he explained.

  1. Anti-Body Rapid Diagnostic Test Kit RI-GHA19

The RI-GHA19 Antibody Rapid Diagnostic Test Kit is an innovation in collaboration with Universitas Gadjah Mada and Hepatika Medical Laboratory of Universitas Mataram. The Covid-19 Rapid Test product made in Indonesia is useful for identifying individuals exposed to Covid-19.

“Currently, the Anti-Body Rapid Test product has received a production and distribution permit,” he explained.

  1. RAISA Robot

RAISA is a robot that can assist health workers in supervising and serving Covid-19 patients. The collaboration product of UNAIR and the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) is expected to prevent the transmission of the virus to health workers.

  1. Portable Negative-Pressure Isolation Room for Covid-19 Patients

The negative-pressure isolation room is the standard type for handling Covid-19 patients. On the other hand, the portable isolation room by UNAIR and ITS collaboration can shorten the installation time while still taking the infection prevention and control standards into account.

“This portable isolation room meets the principles of safety, health, comfort, and convenience for patients, health workers, and visitors, following the Ministry of Health guidelines,” he explained.

  1. Mechanical Ventilators for Covid-19 Situation

Mechanical ventilators by UNAIR and ITS collaboration can be used to meet the availability of mechanical ventilators based on technical and clinical requirements to treat Covid-19 patients with respiratory problems. This product is a national ventilator technology product that can meet usage criteria in the ICU.

  1. Merah Putih Vaccine

Merah Putih Vaccine is an inactivated vaccine platform in development, currently at the stage of a clinical trial to macaques which will be mass-produced in March 2022 in collaboration with PT. Biotis Pharmaceuticals Indonesia.

  1. Preclinical Trial of Inactivated Sars-Cov-2 Vaccines

Pre-clinical Trial of Inactivated Sars-Cov-2 Vaccines is a form of research on the development of vaccine production based on the whole inactivated SARS-CoV-2 virus. Research collaboration between UNAIR and PT. Biotis Pharmaceuticals Indonesia continues producing and purifying SARS-CoV-2 for pre-clinical trial preparation on hACE2 transgenic mice and macaques.

  1. Clinical Trial of the Sars-Cov-2 Vaccines Based on Recombinant Adenovirus as the Prototype of Indonesia’s Covid Vaccines

This research applied a new approach with recombinant adenovirus, aiming to find a vaccine for the Covid-19 virus. UNAIR, in collaboration with the University of Manchester, will continue the production and purification of the Indonesian AV-SARS-CoV-2 virus vector as a prototype of Indonesia’s Covid-19 vaccines by using the FPLC (Fast Protein Liquid Chromatography) method.

  1. Synthesis of Anti Covid-19 Main Protease Compound

The product innovation is still in the form of a prototype. With this product, the synthesis of a single active potential compound can accelerate discovering a candidate for the anti-Covid-19 main protease drug as a novel Drug Discovery and Development (OPB).

  1. Airlangga Robotic Triage Assistant (ARTA)

The ARTA robot is a product of the Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (FTMM) and the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) UNAIR. The product is designed to assist health workers in the initial diagnosis of Covid-19. The screening system is carried out based on body temperature and automatic anamnesis that has been implanted in the device so that the patients can be categorized into low, medium, or high-risk groups.

  1. Five Combinations of Covid-19 Drugs

The five combinations of Covid-19 drugs were found by a joint team of UNAIR, the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), the Indonesian Army (TNI-AD), and the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM). The five drug combinations are lopinavir/ritonavir with azithromycin, lopinavir/ritonavir with doxycycline, lopinavir/ritonavir with clarithromycin, hydroxychloroquine with azithromycin, hydroxychloroquine with doxycycline.

  1. Piperona

Piperona is an innovative hand sanitizer product by Dr. Isnaeni, MS., Apt from Faculty of Pharmacy UNAIR.

  1. Allset Hand Sanitizer

Allset Hand Sanitizer is an innovative hand sanitizer product by Dr. Retno Sari, M.Si., Apt from Faculty of Pharmacy UNAIR.

  1. AIRDS ISYANA MOBILE ROBOT

ISYANA is used to spray disinfectant liquid and equipped with a non-contact temperature sensor to measure the object’s temperature in front of it with an array image. ISYANA can also measure the surrounding air condition, determine the robot’s actual position with its GPS sensor, and measure its maneuvers within 9 degrees of freedom with its accelerometer.

  1. Smart Washing Hand Machine (SWAM)

FST UNAIR developed the SWAM tool as an effort to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic by implementing a clean lifestyle through urban sanitation technology.

  1. NORMAL.IN Application

NORMAL.IN is an application that provides digital-based Covid-19 preferences in the New Normal era. The NORMAL.IN is an integrated application that offers information on health facilities that provide Covid-19 healthcare services accessible through gadgets.
