UNAIR NEWS – Niki Tsuraya Yaumi (Niki) as COO and Co-Founder of Goers at an entrepreneurship webinar organized by the UNAIR Information Systems Diploma Program Student Association explained that apart from gaining profits, the challenges of starting a start-up business must be considered. It is also necessary to consider the consequences to be faced when starting a start-up.
“Things that often forget to consider when starting a business are the consequences of doing business,” said Niki.
Niki explained, the biggest challenge faced when starting a start-up, include making the first step to build a start-up. There are also cash flow management, hiring teams, time management, delegating, capital, market-fit products, and other issues.
Meanwhile, the consequences that must be faced when starting a business, especially a start-up, include financial instability, long working hours, social pressure, and the possibility of failure. However, there are also advantages, such as freedom, great responsibility, being able to understand yourself better, and living your passion.
Niki also provides tips on how to start a start-up business and become an entrepreneur. The first is to gain more work experience. “This work experience can be obtained through an internship while still in college,” she continued.
Steps to start a start-up business
The second step is to read more books from other entrepreneurs. Then learn to manage budgets, solve problems, find your ikigai, learn time efficiency, find problems you want to solve, test ideas, build networks, and raise funds.
“Learning to manage a budget can be started by managing your own finances during college. This skill is needed to run a business in order to know which expenses are important and not important, ” explained Niki.
Then, ways to learn to solve problems can be obtained from trying to solve the problems that exist in the organization where individuals are in. According to Niki, solving problem skill is necessary even before the business is started.
Meanwhile, ikigai can be found by finding a perspective from four things in life, what individuals love, what the world needs, what individuals can get, and what abilities individuals have well.
Unlike a game, in business, there are known players and there are many unknown players. Then, the rules for being the best in business are ever-changing, erratic. Business goals are the reasons that keep the business going. There are no winners and no losers in business.
So according to Niki, in doing business, we are actually competing with ourselves. In order to be the best, you have to fight yourself in order to be even better.
“One of the things entrepreneurs need to possess is the ability to adapt, on how to make business better every day, how to be able to take care of customers better every day, ” she concluded. (*)
