Online Graduation, UNAIR Rector appeals graduates to be ready facing competition in New Normal Era

UNAIR NEWS – The graduation inauguration procession became an important moment for the academics of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). For the first time, UNAIR Rector Prof. Mohammad Nasih, SE., MT, Ak., CMA inaugurated 704 students from vocational diploma (D3-D4), undergraduate (S1), and doctoral (S3) programs online.

Although amid Covid-19 pandemic, there was still sacred moment of graduation in June 2020 period. Being held at the Garuda Mukti Hall, Campus C UNAIR on Saturday, June 27, 2020, the graduation was conducted online with graduands from their respective residences via zoom and Universitas Airlangga official YouTube account.

In his remarks, Prof. Nasih said that this graduation ceremony was held in a very different situations and method because of Covid-19 pandemic. However, the graduates should still be grateful because not all students can complete their education and graduate from Universitas Airlangga which is one of the best universities in the world. Online graduation, according to him, will not reduce the feeling of pride and happiness to be UNAIR graduates who have excellence with morality.

“The success in graduation this time cannot be separated from the support of several parties who are not reluctant and providing positive support in order to complete their education well. Be successful and useful people and be a bless to the universe and humanity around you, “he said.

The Rector also said that the current pandemic situation is not easy to deal with. Covid-19 pandemic which seems not yet over requires people to get accustomed to a new way of life.

“The pandemic gives us lessons to be more careful about maintaining health. We have to get used to life in the new normalcy, “he stressed.

Prof. Nasih also said that June Period graduation became a historical moment and the beginning of a new order for UNAIR. Graduation with online methods, he continued, is part of UNAIR’s commitment to be ready to face a new normal that is healthier, more disciplined, respected time and others also to give benefits to humanity.

“This graduation is one of the commitments in facing new normal and does not reduce your pride as an alumni of UNAIR who have excellence with morality,” he said.

Prof. Nasih also hoped that the graduates could maintain the good reputation of the alma mater. Perform confidently as a person with the spirit of Universitas Airlangga, Excellence with Morality. He also revealed that the knowledge possessed by graduates must be followed with morals and ethics, to bring benefit to humanity.

“We hope that you will soon be able to devote your knowledge in various places and we also look forward to UNAIR graduates being able to get jobs in the new normal era.” As we have seen together, there is an even fiercer competition to get jobs now,” he said.

The competition does not only occur at large factories but also at universities. If competition becomes daily food, then what is needed is a strong determination.

“The key to facing future challenges is to remain being HEBAT (Humble, Excellent, Brave, Agile, and Transcendent) graduates. HEBAT characters will be the key to winning the competition in the battlefield, “he added.

Now, UNAIR academics must also be proud of UNAIR’s extraordinary achievements at global and Indonesian levels. Based on the QS ranking for 2021 that was just released last June 10, UNAIR rose tremendously, from 651+ to 521-530. Besides, UNAIR is also the 4th best university in Indonesia.

“A lot of efforts have been made, not merely for ranking. However, this is all for the good of the learning process at Universitas Airlangga, so that graduates will be truly qualified and well received in the community and the world of work. What is clear, the dream of becoming one of the 500 best universities in the world will be in line with the main task of higher education, its Tri Dharma, “he said.

Nevertheless, the graduates must remain humble, so the value of excellence with morality can be applied in every aspect of life. HEBAT value that must be applied will encourage graduates to become openminded human beings and open to opportunities that exist.

“The people who become winners are those who contribute and give benefit to other fellow human beings, who are more just and civilized,” he concluded.
