National Education Day amid pandemic, UNAIR holds competition and webinar

UNAIR NEWS – Covid-19 pandemic does not limit creativity of Universitas Airlangga’s academic community. Despite having to do activities from home, the academic climate from discussions and exchanges of insights can still be build.

This time, as a series of 2020 National Education Day commemoration, UNAIR held a webinar activity in the form of a talk show titled “Learning from Covid-19”. Streamed live via UNAIR YouTube channel on Saturday, May 2, the event was filled by UNAIR Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih M.Si., and Social Sciences expert Prof. Dr. Bagong Suyanto Drs., M.Si.

In his presentation, Prof. Nyoman explained many things about the 2020 National Education Day theme, “Learning from Covid-19”. According to her, learning does not recognize time and people can learn from anything, including the Covid-19 pandemic.

“With the existence of Covid-19, we are all expected to be solid and united,” she said.

Meanwhile, Prof. Bagong on the same occasion also said that such a difficult pandemic period does not have to make us stop learning. In fact, difficult conditions like this can make people learn a lot.

“In fact, the existence of this pandemic gave birth to many journals from many diverse perspectives. Both in terms of medical and non-medical, “he explained.

After giving their presentation, the two speakers also answering questions that were submitted in UNAIR YouTube comments column. From all the questions, some were selected for the speakers.

There was a question from @ b.ragas, “I have one question for the professors, how to effectively educate people unfamiliar with this pandemic, without giving a sense of being “Mr. Know All” to them.” From @nadyanfhr “Professor, is it true that the body’s immune system can fight the covid 19 virus? if it’s true why not make drugs to improve immunity, considering that there is currently no vaccine for this virus. ” And there was also a question from @adityanobita_ “Professor Bagong, what do you think of massive layoffs and how can Pre Employment Card program be effective? “

After answering the questions, the webinar activity continued with the announcement of winners of the competition that had been carried out since April 2020. There were several competitions to enliven the 2020 National Education Day such as writing inspirational stories, designing posters, making videos, and photos. From the hundreds of participants, UNAIR provided some prize money for the top five best works from each competition category. Congratulations for the winners !!!
