MSU Students Discussing Diphtheria at KKN IPE UNAIR

UNAIR NEWS – Participants in Community Service Program (KKN) Inter-Professional Education (IPE) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) conducted socialization of Diphtheria and Halal-Haram Vaccine. The activity was carried out at Health Center, Ms. Emy’s House Head of RT 10 Cadre, Jalan Jetis Kulon, Gang VIII, Wonokromo Sub-District, Wonokromo Sub-District, Surabaya on Wednesday, July 03.

There were students of internship program, Faculty of Public Health (FKM) of International Medical School, Management, and Science University (MSU) Malaysia. Three MSU students who also have health backgrounds participated in counseling with other communities.

Dr. Muhammad Atoillah Isfandari Dr., M.Kes, a lecturer at FKM UNAIR and KLB topic coordinator as the speaker in the event. Dr. Atok invited MSU students to participate in KKN IPE UNAIR. Especially in health education activities that go directly to the community.

Archie Arman Dwiyatna, a student at Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNAIR, as well as the person in charge of KKN IPE Topics, said that MSU students at the event learned about medical disease issue in general public. In addition, they learned about how health professionals behave in rural communities.

“They are happy in participating in several activities. They learn to be a doctor in rural communities,” he said.

“We are excited introducing new things to the community, and the response of the community is great, and they are also very curious in asking some question,” he added.

Through KKN IPE, MSU student got a lot of new knowledge and experience. Especially in overcoming health problem.

One of them is through direct preventive efforts that engage in community activities. For example, socialization at their home, health center, and other community association.

Furthermore, KKN IPE Topics KLB with 22 members have conducted surveys and data collection in the working area of Wonokromo Health Center before determining the topic of discussion. Based on a study of W1 health center reporting data, there were two large outbreaks and just happened — namely, Diphtheria Outbreak and DHF Outbreak.

Besides, there were four times of counseling.  On July 3 about diphtheria outbreaks and halal-haram vaccine issue on July 5 regarding DHF outbreaks, on July 6 about coverage of family planning use, and on July 10 regarding the acquisition of therapy for community hypertension that is not evenly distributed.

“For our activities, there are two topic: DHF and Diphtheria. We determined by University analysis of KLB  at Wonokromo Health Center, “he said. (*)
