Motivation sharing encourages staff to respond to change

UNAIR NEWS – As part of the main activity of Work Meeting-FGD Administrators and Supervisors at Universitas Airlangga, a motivation sharing was presented by Director of Human Resources, Gadjah Mada University, Dr. Drs. Ratminto, M.Pol., ADMIN., went very well. Being held at the Ballroom, Illira Hotel, Banyuwangi, January 26, Ratminto gave a presentation on “Increasing the Role of Supporting Staffs in Higher Education Performance”.

In the opening presentation, UGM FISIPOL academic explained about the short journey of the industrial revolution. He also explained briefly about the era of disruption that demanded changes in many things in a very fast time. In this regard, he said, technological progress in a fast paced era actually requires humans to respond to changes and acceleration that occurs.

“However, all of these things are for the purposes and interests of all of us,” he said.

Furthermore, he also explained that responding to the rapid changes, quick adjustments were needed as well. Both at the individual and organizational level. If it is not done, he said, the organization will become extinct.

“That’s what experienced by Nokia,” said Ratminto.

In the next presentation, Ratminto also mentioned some government policies, one of them was to simplify the bureaucracy. He appreciated UNAIR for making the bureaucratic simplification arrangement model.

“Even in our campus we are still looking for the right gap for that, we also learned a lot from UNAIR in this regard,” he said.

In the end, before closing the motivational exposure, Ratminto revealed some of the competencies needed by staff in the university environment in dealing with changes. The most important competencies, he said, is the ability to solve problems. According to him, that ability can be started from the lowest level.

Furthermore, he also explained the next competency which is critical thinking. According to him, it is not easy, considering that sometimes the rules are too detailed and be obstacles to increase critical way of thinking. Then, the next competency is creativity.

“This is not easy as well, considering our culture is often made uniform. And it has instilled value that different things are not good, “he said.

From some of the competencies presented, Ratminto concluded that staff should have competence with global insight, global communication skills, understanding of ICT, creativity and innovation, humanity, ethics, tolerance, awareness on obligations and rights, and willingness to always learn.

“If we can have them, God willing, the organization will be better organized. It is also in line with our determination to become a world-class university, we can achieve it with such work culture, “he concluded.
