UNAIR NEWS – After the Indonesian Ministry of Health gave the green light, vaccination for pregnant women was carried out simultaneously for the first time in regions of Indonesia. In the city of Surabaya, a special vaccination session for pregnant women was carried out at the Airlangga Convention Center (ACC) Campus C on Thursday morning, August 19, 2021.
Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, was present at the vaccination site to deliver the opening remarks. The PDIP politician said that implementing mass vaccination for pregnant women at UNAIR was the right choice because it is a collaboration with UNAIR Hospital, and ACC location is spacious and comfortable.
“So we don’t have to worry. There are many health experts at UNAIR and have often contributed to the health aspect of Surabaya. Moreover, the organizing committee is also mostly obstetricians, so experts really handle this mass vaccination. Surabaya is comfortable with the existence of UNAIR,” said the ITS alumni.
One thousand doses of the Sinovac vaccine were administered to pregnant women in this activity. Eri said that special vaccination for pregnant women is an effort to maintain the health of future generations. He added that it is related to how the current generation cares for and protects Surabaya for the next generation.
“For the pregnant mothers, this vaccination is also a form of carrying out the mandate from God who has entrusted the babies to the mother. I have often been asked where to vaccinate pregnant women, and I didn’t know how to answer. Hopefully, this activity can answer the enthusiasm of mothers to get vaccines.”
The former Head of Bapekko Surabaya also said that in the future, the UNAIR ACC building would be one of the permanent vaccination points in Surabaya City. Eri is also enthusiastic about this plan because UNAIR health experts handle the vaccination and the location is convenient and spacious.
