UNAIR NEWS – Student Admission Center (PPMB) together with the Center for Information and Public Relations (PIH) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held another Open Talk event live via Instagram and YouTube on Wednesday, August 5, 2020. In collaboration with one of Faculty of Law (FH) lecturers, Dr. Suparto Wijoyo, SH, M.Hum., the event was held to provide information for prospective new students on studies in the field of social humanities (soshum) at UNAIR.

Moderated by Anindya Anandita, Dr. Suparto said that in UNAIR there were hundreds of social programs from three-year vocational programs to doctoral degree programs. Specifically on campus B, there are 13 majors, including Law and Psychology. Furthermore, Dr. Suparto explained that if there was interest in economic matters, prospective students could choose Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB).

“When you want to know about economic development, want to understand sharia economics, then you can choose Islamic economics program,” he said.

Beside Law, Psychology and Economics, UNAIR also has other various programs, such as Political Science in Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), then Literature in Faculty of Humanities (FIB) and many more.

Dr. Suparto revealed social humanity majors are the horizon that can improve someone’s insight on humanitarian field. Then, talking about the skills that must be possessed by the students, Dr. Suparto said that prospective students do not have to have certain skills because later they will develop after students undergo the education according to their fields.

“The role of educational institutions is to elevate themselves to have more capacity, and this is indeed our job (lecturers and others, ed) who will help you (prospective new students, ed) in developing those skills ,” he explained.

In the event, Dr. Suparto also advised students not to complain when lecturers give lots of assignments. Students must be prepared with some tasks, because that way, students can build skills they do not yet have. As closing statement, he emphasized that prospective new students could set goals for the future they want.

“Don’t worry, determine your path and choose Airlangga University as a medium to your bright future and remember that social humanities aim to elevate the degree of humanity,” he concluded. (*)
