UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Dental Medicine (FKG) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held community service activities to prevent COVID-19 transmission in the community of Candisari Village, Sambeng Sub-district, Lamongan Regency. This community service program has been implemented since April 2020.

Dr Pratiwi Soesilawati, drg., MKes., PA (K) or Dr. Pratiwi, as the program leader explained that the program was an effort to keep Candisari Village a green zone. Before and during the empowerment program was carried out, the number of COVID-19 sufferers in the area was zero.

“This condition (green zone, ed) should be maintained considering that Candisari Village is an area that has the potential to be exposed to COVID-19 because the village is located close to various regions,” said Doctor Pratiwi to UNAIR NEWS on Wednesday, November 3, 2020.

Doctor Pratiwi continued, most of the productive age workers from Candisari Village work outside the village. Thus, these productive workers are at risk of becoming carriers of SARS-Cov-2 virus and spreading COVID-19.

This community service program is carried out through mentoring and counseling to increase understanding on the body’s resistance to viruses; application of physical distancingdisinfection of self, equipment and the environment; and developing a referral system for residents experiencing COVID-19.

To support these outreach activities, the team also prepared a manual on the environmental disinfection system and the prevention of COVID-19. Beside a module book, the team also prepared scientific articles and videos on the implementation of environmental disinfection system.

“A module book on the environmental disinfection system and the prevention of COVID 19 has been compiled for this service activity,” explained Dr. Pratiwi.

Pratiwi hoped that this community service program can lead to good synergy between the community and academics to face the COVID-19 pandemic, especially between Faculty of Dental Medicine and the people of Candisari Village.

“Hopefully this community service activity will be able to produce good synergy between academics and the community to face and go through the COVID 19 pandemic,” she concluded.
