BEM FKM Encourages Students to Wear Batik through BUTIK

UNAIR NEWS – Batik is one of the world cultural heritages from Indonesia. Indonesian should be proud that it has a national cultural heritage recognized internationally.

Moreover, since 2009, batik has received international recognition and is officially part of UN Representative List of Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO) as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It should make Indonesian nation to understand and preserve batik tradition.

It inspired Student Executive Body (BEM) Faculty of Public Health (FKM) held a program called BUTIK (Wednesday Batik). It was promoted two years ago through Department of Communication and Information (Kominfo) BEM FKM UNAIR.

Muhammad Baharudin Wisudawan, Head of BEM FKM for 2019-2020 said that BUTIK has received a good response from FKM UNAIR students. Although it is only applied every Wednesday, the essence of BUTIK is expected to be instilled in all students.

“BUTIK is an activity carried out to encourage friends to wear batik clothes. It is implemented every Wednesday and target all FKM UNAIR students, “he said.

“Until now, not all of them wear it, but they started to wear it and get used to it. The response is also quite high, “he said.

The essence of BUTIK is to preserve the custom of wearing batik, loving batik, and then introducing batik, both on campus and outside the campus. Hopefully, it can be implemented to even wider community, not only FKM students.

Bahar said that it is very important to maintain the sustainability of the program to improve interest on batik. There will be other activities such as batik challenge, both in the form of photos and videos, to attract students’ interest.

“Sustainability must be maintained to be carried out every day (Wednesday, ed), “he said.
BEM FKM UNAIR has made several efforts, such as promoting BUTIK program through their social media accounts and making BEM FKM UNAIR daily management body (BPH) wear batik every Wednesday. With enthusiasm from students, The program is expected to grow. (*)
