UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga through Center for Scientific Journal Development and Publication (PPJPI) continues to boost the publication of articles and the quality of scientific journals in UNAIR, both national and international accredited scientific journals. It is an effort to achieve the target of Top 500 World Class University.

To UNAIR NEWS, Head of UNAIR PPJPI Muhammad Miftahussurur, dr., M. Kes., Sp. PD., Ph.D., said that at the beginning of 2019, there is good news coming from UNAIR journal development as several UNAIR journals successfully accredited nationally. There were 5 journals ranked as Sinta (Science and Technology Index) S2 journals; 3 journals ranked as S3 journals; and 2 journals as S4 journals.

“Not only national accreditation, there are also 5 journals successfully indexed by DOAJ, and 1 journal successfully indexed by Clarivate Analytics Web of Science in the category of Emerging Source Citation Index (ESCI),” he explained.

He also elaborated that most of the accredited journals are from Faculty of Public Health. They are Jurnal Berkala Epidemiologi, Media Gizi Indonesia, Jurnal Administrasi Kesehatan Indonesia, Amerta Nutrition, Jurnal Kesehatan Lingkungan, Jurnal Biometrika dan Kependudukan, The Indonesian Journal of Public Health, Jurnal PROMKES, and The Indonesian Journal of Occupational Safety and Health. There was also Fisheries and Marine Scientific Journal from Faculty of Fisheries and Marine.

“The first achievement to be indexed by ESCI was Jurnal Masyarakat, Kebudayaan dan Politik from Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. It was a tremendous improvement from FISIP, FKM, and FPK, I would like to congratulate them on this achievement. In addition to mentoring by PPJPI, this achievement was the result of journal editors’ hard work who are very enthusiastic in developing the journals’ quality. I would like to express my gratitude to the previous PPJPI leaderships. Hopefully, it motivates us to continue and our journals can be indexed by Scopus, “he said.

The preparation made for this national accreditation and international indexation was not short because starting in 2018, the national accreditation journal evaluation is no longer based on print edition but Open Journal Systems (OJS).

“The international indexation assessment is based on journal’s website, so it requires a great deal of effort and collaboration between PPJPI and the managing editor, as well as the journal IT team,” he added.

The lecturer known as Miftah also said that several important indicators for national accreditation and international indexation assessment are the diversity of authors, with authors from two countries at least in each issue and an editorial team from four countries. He also said that some of the journals had received rejected at first, but they did not stop PPJPI and journal editorial teams to keep trying.

“Mentoring continues to be carried out intensively, improvements are being carried out continuously to fulfill national accreditation assessment indicators, DOAJ and Clarivate Analytics Web of Science, also Scopus,” he said.

In total, there are 16 S2 journals, 7 journals S3 journals and 3 S4 journals. There were also 15 DOAJ journals and 1 journal indexed by Clarivate Analytics Web of Science. PPJPI expects more Universitas Airlangga journals to improve their quality, achieve national and even international accreditation (Scopus).
