UNAIR NEWS – The Covid-19 pandemic, which lasted more than a year, is certainly a challenge for every hospital, including the Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA). This condition requires the hospital to adapt quickly and take strategic steps in dealing with patients, as stated by Prof. Dr. Nasronudin, dr., Sp.PD-KPTI., FINASIM., as the director of RSUA in the 2021 National Technology Awakening Day (HAKTEKNAS) webinar.

Prof. Dr. Nasronudin said that leading a hospital amid the pandemic is a challenge for him. Moreover, at the beginning of the pandemic, many health workers were afraid and anxious. Therefore, the RSUA took steps by providing psychological assistance and inviting spiritual leaders to encourage them.

“Thanks to the cooperation of all national and international elements, RSUA managed to achieve the second position as the hospital with the best national contribution after Wisma Atlet in handling Covid at the beginning of the pandemic,” he explained at the event taking place on Monday, August 2, 2021.

Separating services

One of the policies taken by RSUA during the pandemic, according to Prof. Dr. Nasronudin, is to separate all services. First, he said patient care is given in two places: the RSUA building for non-Covid patients and the Infectious Tropical Disease Hospital (RSPTI) for Covid-19 services.

“The entrance, the emergency room, the parking lot, and everything are separated. The separation eventually made people return to the RSUA because they no longer needed to be afraid of being infected by Covid patients,” he said.

Furthermore, the director and internist revealed that RSUA also created an innovation by providing Pre-ER and Pre-Clinics to determine which patients should be brought to the Covid and non-Covid areas. Hopefully, it can reduce infection to health workers.

Meanwhile, regarding laboratory facilities, the RSUA also separated the locations by making the 3rd floor of the RSUA a special laboratory for non-Covid patients and the 3rd floor of the RSPTI as the laboratory for Covid patients and research sites.

“Currently, we also have ten operating rooms with the division of seven rooms for non-Covid patients and three rooms for Covid patients,” he added.

Various innovations

In addition to treating the patients, RSUA is also actively conducting research and innovation in the medical field and Covid-19 handling. Some of the innovations are the Integrated Digital Design Research Center for Medical (IDIG-RCMED) in collaboration with ITS; AIRBILISUN to detect and treat hyperbilirubinemia in children; Self Diagnosis Kiosk in collaboration with IT Telkom to cut examination time from 4 hours to 2 hours; and other innovations.

In the IT field, Prof. Dr. Nasronudin said that RSUA had launched Si Perdana of UNAIR Hospital. The innovation, continued Prof. Dr. Nasronudin, provides E-Registration, E-Medical Record, E-Laboratory, E-Radiology, and so on.

“We will continue to make breakthrough innovations, research, and services as a major contribution to handling the current pandemic,” he concluded. (*)
