UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Vocational Studies has made another proudest achievement for Universitas Airlangga in the national arena. This time, the Dignity Jamu team successfully passed the 2021 Vocational Student Entrepreneurship Program (PKMV) funding organized by the Directorate General of Vocational Education. They are Andrew Willem Palar, Julie Sintia Nabila, Frisca Taffana, and Annisa Mayzealuna.

PKMV is one of the entrepreneurship competitions organized by the Director-General of Vocational Education for vocational students.  Dignity Jamu (Herbal Drink Increasing Immunity) team leader, Juan Andrew Willem Palar, explained the herbal drink innovation they made. The student of Hospitality Management three-year vocational program (D3) explained that the team’s biggest motivation was to become a young entrepreneur.

“Alhamdulillah, we passed the funding in 2020. For this year, we continued with last year’s team, and Alhamdulillah, this second year we also passed for funding again,” he said.

The Dignity Jamu team innovates on herbal drinks considering that they are less attractive to the public than contemporary drinks such as boba or coffee. The packaging Dignity Team offers is very modern and contemporary, so that it attracts customers to buy.

The three of them produce homemade herbal drinks without preservatives. They also provide an info card about the benefits and ingredients for making the herbal drink.

Dignity Jamu offers three flavors, beras kencur, kunyit asem, and sinom. Beras kencur can improve stamina, help the body to be ideal and reduce bad cholesterol, while kunyit asem helps regulate blood sugar, prevent the risk of cancer, and increase endurance.

“As for sinom, it is effective to overcome colds, reduce pain during menstruation, and treat constipation,” said Juan.

Juan also said that Dignity Jamu is a trusted herbal concoction with many benefits and is guaranteed to be natural. The Dignity team mixed the herbs with herbal drink sellers in Kediri and collaborated with practitioners from Kedai Mas Ang who had obtained the permit.

“In the future, we want to continue with the clinical trial process to ensure the composition and efficacy of our products,” he added.

For the production, Juan and his team provide premium packaging or bottles that can be refilled to reduce plastic waste in the environment. “This innovation we developed is expected to attract customers to live healthily and also with premium packaging can save the surrounding environment in reducing plastic waste,” he explained.

“For this year, UNAIR, especially the Faculty of Vocational Studies, assists in preparing proposals and signing contracts. Alhamdulillah , UNAIR, and the study program also gave rewards for the team, and it helped us for our studies,” he concluded. (*)
