UNAIR NEWS – Three students of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) have made another achievement in IKBIM National Week activities organized by Makassar State University (UNM). They are Vina Himmatus Sholikhah, Mahadewi Natalia Wardaniyagung and Diyah Ayu Mubarokah.

Vina, the team leader, said that they won two awards in two different categories, the first place in the scientific writing competition (LKTI) and the best poster. The theme of the competition was the contribution and innovation of students in realizing sustainable development in the new normal era. So, they presented innovation by creating an application called SI DIA which is an independent blood sugar management application for people with diabetes mellitus.

The features in the application include ‘check your blood sugar’, ‘information for you’, ‘diet for you’, ‘activities for you’, ‘talk for you’ and ‘medicine for you’. With these features, application users will get food and activity recommendations according to their blood sugar conditions so that a healthy lifestyle can be applied.

“So, the competition final was held on May 28-30, 2021, at UNM. We’re happy for being declared as the winner, especially in two different categories, because what we have worked for has yielded satisfactory results,” she said on Thursday, June 3, 2021.

For the competition, Vina explained, there were several processes they went through. First, full paper and video submission, then waiting for the finalists’ announcement. After becoming the finalists, she continued, the team had to prepare the poster and power point presentations (PPT) to be presented.

“The three of us also practiced for the presentation,” continued Vina.

In the future, Vina hoped they would be able to take part in other competitions held offline. According to her, the opportunities will make it possible for her to explore other regions in Indonesia.

“I hope the innovation we have made can be realized and bring benefits to the wider community,” she said.

Finally, Vina advised other students to try new things while they were still in college. She said there is no need to be afraid about the challenges and obstacles that will be faced. With good intentions and prayers, continued Vina, God will make it easier for any efforts made. (*)
