UNAIR NEWS – After an MoU signing session between Universitas Airlangga and PT Pelindo III, an Executive Talk, “The HR Executive Session, People Leadership and Teamwork” was held. Taking place at Amerta Hall Campus C UNAIR, April 15, 2021, the event presented UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Moh. Nasih and Human Resources Director of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III Edy Priyanto S.KM., MM as speakers.

As the first speaker, Prof. Nasih gave an explanation about leadership in higher education environment. According to him, talking about leadership, there are different characters in each organization.

“The leadership model at UNAIR is certainly different from the leadership at PT Pelindo III because every organization has different demands, “he said.

Furthermore, Prof. Nasih also said that the role of leadership in supporting organizational achievements is very important, considering the function of a leader to direct the resources they have, from the finance, information systems, and many other things to achieve the main goal.

“The role of a leader determines success in an organization. Any organization, no matter how small, the leader becomes the determining factor, because the leader directs where the organization goes, “said Prof. Nasih.

Furthermore, Prof. Nasih also discussed leadership models in academics. According to him, leadership in an academic environment is very unique. The reason is, as a place for scientists to gather, the academic leader model or concept becomes a very appropriate model to be applied in a campus environment.

“Speaking of leadership, the style of leadership in higher education is somewhat different. On campus, as the scope of academics, the academic leader model is the right model because here, the leader must educate leaders, not just lead, “explained Prof. Nasih.

Meanwhile, in the next presentation, Edy said that everyone is a leader for himself. In fact, in the world of practitioners or industry, in carrying out a leadership must present a value.

“In us, there is a value that is shared, called AKHLAK,” he said.

AKHLAK, he continued, means Trusted, Competent, Harmonious, Loyal, Adaptive, and Collaborative. All of these values, continued Edy, are very relevant to the climate of the industrial world which continues to develop and change rapidly.
