UNAIR NEWS – After undergoing briefing sessions for 5 days, around 14,000 students who passed the Pioneering Teaching Campus (KMP) program selection were simultaneously deployed to carry out assignments. The Teaching Campus itself is a part of the Independent Campus (Kampus Merdeka) program. This program invites all students from all over Indonesia with various scientific fields to help with teaching and learning process of elementary schools, especially in 3T (the outermost, frontline and disadvantaged) regions.

In addition to make significant contribution to the country’s development, KMP participants will also get incentives and exemption from 12 credits. This opportunity was not wasted by PSDKU Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) students in Banyuwangi. Eighteen students of PSDKU UNAIR Banyuwangi took parts in this program.

Faridha Kusumaningrum, an Aquaculture undergrad student from the class of 2018 and participant of the program revealed that she did not expect to pass the selection considering the great number of applicants and competition with students with educational backgrounds. She hoped that she can carry out this mandate to the fullest.

“Feeling very fortunate to be part of KMP, being chosen from thousands of students who registered is a big responsibility, I hope that my KMP colleagues and I can do it as well as possible,” said the student known well as Faridha when interviewed by the UNAIR NEWS team on Tuesday, March 23.

This activity is carried out for approximately 3 months or 12 weeks from last Monday, March 22. Dewi Fitriyani, who is also a KMP participant from the Accounting undergraduate program revealed that even though it is held during a week-day, she still felt enthusiasm to contribute. It can actually train her to manage time.

“This is actually a very valuable lesson, we can take lectures while making a real contribution to society, it can remind us that the function of the university is not to be the Ivory Tower,” said Dewi.

From the 18 students, all of them are spread across 11 different elementary schools. Faridha, who was assigned to SDN 3 Pesucen Banyuwangi, was a little surprised to see the condition of education there. In the end, she hoped that the presence of KMP teams could have a positive impact on Indonesian education.

“Hopefully, through this KMP program, my friends and I can contribute even if it’s a little to the advancement of our beloved Indonesian education,” she concluded.
