UNAIR NEWS – The 62nd Airlangga Webinar Conference Series (AWCS) was held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 through zoom video conference and streamed on YouTube. The webinar discussed the challenges and opportunities for publication in accredited national journals. There were four speakers,  Dr. Isnin Anang Marhana, dr., Sp.P (K), FCCP, FISR from UNAIR, Dr. Feni Fitriyani, dr., Sp.P (K), FISR from University of Indonesia, and Muhammad Miftahussurur, dr., M.Kes, Sp.PD-KGEH, Ph.D (dr. Miftah).

Doctor Miftah discussed the challenges and benefits of publication in accredited national journals or in Scopus-indexed international journals. UNAIR Vice Rector for Internationalization, Digitalization and Information for the 2020-2025 period explained that accredited national journals are national scientific journals that are accredited by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, indexed by SINTA, ARJUNA, or those that have met the management standards of national journals accredited Q1 to Q6.

“Meanwhile, international journals are international journals that meet at least eight criteria,” said dr. Miftah.

The eight criteria are the published scientific works are written in compliance with scientific principles and scientific ethics; have an ISSN; written in the official language of the United Nations; has an online version. Then, the editorial board of the journal is experts in their fields from at least four countries and is indexed by reputable international databases.

Meanwhile, reputable international journals are scientific journals that meet the eight criteria and have an impact factor and included in the ISI Web of Science or Scimago Journal Rank (SJR) and are rated 40 at the highest. Then, journals that meet the criteria of international journals and indexed by reputable international databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, or Microsoft Academic Search although it does not yet have an impact factor from the ISI Web of Science or SJR and is rated 30 at the highest. Or international journals that meet the eight criteria for international journals that have not been indexed in reputable international databases but have been indexed in international databases such as DOAJ, CABI, Copernicus, and/or page according to the consideration of the expert team of the Directorate General of Higher Education and can be rated as scientific papers with a maximum of 20.

“However, this year UNAIR does not use Scimago but immediately uses Scopus,” he continued.

According to Doctor Miftah, journals indexed by Googlescholar, EBSCO, DRJI, Index Copernicus and other journal indexing have the highest acceptance rates, about 60% to 80%. In DOAJ indexed journals the estimate for acceptance is around 40% to 60%. Meanwhile, the highest level of difficulty is in the Scopus or Thomson Reuters indexed journals, which are 20% to 40%.

In order for journals made by researchers to be accepted by Scopus or PubMed, journals should have international interest. Research is not only related to local interests but international interests. It is also necessary to pay attention to the universality of the knowledge written, pioneering, and the comprehensiveness of the data collected. More complete information can be accessed on FK UNAIR’s official YouTube account ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJNject01gwhSJPR-jSIIzQ ).
