Recently established, Department of Basic Nursing accelerates research and community service

UNAIR NEWS – In December 2020, the Department of Basic Nursing was officially established. It marked the change of monoprogram to multi- program system for Faculty of Nursing (FKP) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR).

As Head of Department (Kadep) Dr. Rizki Fitryasari PK, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., said that current Basic Nursing Department oversees two programs, Nursing Bachelor’s Program and Nursing Education.

The lecturer known well as Rizky conveyed that one of the superior programs of Department of Basic Nursing is its community service which is carried out by managing groups, locations, and assisted villages. He said that several community service activities were successfully carried out, among others, school-based community services in Kediri, Surabaya, Lamongan, and Mojokerto; community service based on health services in Puskesmas Lamongan and Puskesmas Tambak Beras Surabaya; and community-based community service.

“This community-based activity is carried out in the form of developing SMART elderly program as well as developing support groups and implementing PHBS (Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors, ed) to prevent Covid-19 transmission,” he said.

Furthermore, Rizky also plans to develop the previous research and community service activities by utilizing the technological aspects such as smartphone application, internet-based, and other technologiesThis development will be carried out by involving all faculty staff, forming a team to evaluate existing achievements, identifying obstacles, especially the obstacles faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and planning several technology-based priorities that are easy, safe, effective and efficient.

Furthermore, Rizky also plans to develop the previous research and community service activities by utilizing the technological aspects such as smartphone application, internet-based, and other technologies. Asked about the challenges, the lecturer from Surabaya said that the department staff who are dominated by young lecturers and limited lecturers with doctoral education is one of the obstacles in developing learning methods. On the other hand, the demands and challenges are even more diverse related to the achievement of higher education Tridharma.
