UNAIR NEWS – Three students of Islamic Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) have made a national achievement. They won 3rd place in GEMPITA 2020 Scientific Writing Competition (LKTI) organized by Trunojoyo University. The three students are Muhammad Ariq Syahputra, Alaik Wahyu Rozaki and Clarissa Fortunella Novitasari.

The National Gempita competition was themed “Agents of Change’s Role and Creation in Realizing the Development of Local Halal Industry in New Normal Era Towards Golden Indonesia”. The stages in the competition were paper submission, video presentation submission, then Q&A session between the finalists and judges via Google Meet.

Interviewed by UNAIR News on Thursday, December 17, 2020, Muhammad Ariq Syahputra said that their biggest motivation was to make FEB and AcSES proud. Ariq said that at first there was a feeling of nervousness because the sub-theme chosen by the team was halal tourism.

“The theme our team chose was tourism. In a pandemic like today, we doubted the jury will accept this idea. But Alhamdulillah it passed. I was actually surprised,” he explained.

Ariq said that the scientific paper they wrote was about Fig fruit agro-tourism to improve welfare of local residents. According to him, the idea is quite extreme because it promotes tourism during a pandemic, which is quite challenging.

“However, inspired by the solefest held by Dr. Tirta, in the end we were convinced to use the idea of Fig fruit agro-tourism while maintaining the health protocols, of course,” he added.

They wanted the government and stakeholders in the future to pay more attention to the existing potentials in the country so local people can easily get jobs. They wanted to provide benefits to local communities as well as people who want to travel.

After being announced to qualify for the next round, three of them finally designed the presentation video to make it look unique. During the question and answer session with the jury, they had a little difficulty.

“But in principle, our team have done our best, everything we can. Mistakes are common, it can be used for the betterment in the future, “he concluded. (*)
