UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga won many awards at the 2020 Productive and Quality Intellectual Property Rights Awards from the Ministry of Research and Technology / National Agency for Research and Innovation (Ristek / BRIN). Apart from being ranked first as most productive institution in the field of non-health and medicine and third place as the most productive institution in the field of health and medicine, some of UNAIR lecturers also won an award as the most productive lead author in the field of social and humanities.
The announcement on Wednesday afternoon, November 18, at Westin Hotel, Jakarta, and streamed online through Zoom and Ministry of Research and Technology / National Agency for Research and Technology’s YouTube, named Iman Harymawan SE., MBA., Ph.D., as the most productive lead author in social and humanities fields with other UNAIR lecturer, Prof. Dr. Anis Eliyana SE., M.Si., in third place.
Interviewed by UNAIR NEWS on Thursday, November 19, Iman said that the award was not from his hard work alone. In conducting research, he added, a mentor who can give guidance and an example during the research process is needed.
“To start research, a mentor is needed, especially mentors who have the capacity and have global insight. Apart from that, the mentor must also have good research quality, “he said.
Iman, who now serves as Head of UNAIR Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE), also said that by seeing a mentor working or conducting a research, he could more or less learn how to handle a lot of research at the same time and how to manage research partners, both domestic and abroad.
Optimize grants
Apart from the role of mentor, in maximizing the quality and quantity of research, Iman said that the next way is to use grants. In his opinion, grants received from UNAIR, Kemenristek, as well as from many overseas parties can be optimized to support research. One of them is used to provide scholarships for postgraduate students.
“Why provide scholarships for students? Because if we look for staff who are not studying, there is only a short time. Therefore, by sending students to school, we can collaborate with them for research and encourage more research productivity, “he said. “That is why, I do not claim that this achievement is only my work, but because of the supports from many parties,” he added.
In the end, Iman also emphasized that research is a collaborative process, either with institutions, partners, even students. In his opinion, with collaboration, researchers can fill each other’s shortcomings.
“Therefore, I hope UNAIR researchers can maximize collaboration with many parties. Even our students, because the students we have are important assets to encourage quality and quantity of research, “he concluded.
