UNAIR NEWS – This October, for the third time, Universitas Airlangga has inaugurated new professors. The five professors were inaugurated at Garuda Mukti Hall, Wednesday, October 21, 2020. The inauguration adds the long list of professors UNAIR has, which is 513.
The five inaugurated professors were Prof. Dr. Kun Ismiyatin, drg., M.Kes., Sp.KG(K) from Faculty of Dental Medicine, Prof. Dr. Seger Handoyo, Drs M.Si., Psychologist from the Faculty of Psychology, Prof. Dr. Raden Darmawan Setijanto, drg., M.Kes from Faculty of Dental Medicine, Prof. Dr. Dwikora Novembri Utomo, dr., Sp.OT(K) from Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Dr. Hendrian Dwikoloso Soebagjo, dr., Sp.M(K) from Faculty of Medicine.
UNAIR Rector Prof. Moh Nasih said, the inauguration of the five professors would increase the stability of UNAIR’s strength. Professor is the highest title in the academic community. “If it is at the top level (position in the academic field, ed), there will be no further goal related to academic positions,” said the Rector.
Therefore, continued the Rector, the professors are expected to contribute their work and thoughts for the alma mater.
The Professor of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) also appealed to all professors to move across borders.
“The ability to cross borders, to speak multidisciplinary, is the key to our success. The world is developing extraordinarily. Do not simply follow the linear formula, but follow the radical and fundamental changes. It is not enough to solve problems only with disciplinary tools we learn in our respective fields, “said the Rector.
Not only that, the Rector also appealed to each professor in their field to collaborate. Crossing boundaries is an absolute necessity. “We hope that UNAIR is known globally for its contribution to universal issues and the benefit of humans in this world,” he added.
The first professor, Prof. Kun Ismiyatin, is the 28th active Professor of Faculty of Dental Medicine. In her scientific oration, the professor of conservative dentistry explained the innovation of using Epigallocatechin-Gallate (EGCG) and diode laser as antibacterial therapy and cure dental caries.
The second professor, Prof. Seger Handoyo, is the 5th active Professor of Faculty of Psychology. In his scientific oration, the professor of Industrial and Organizational Psychology said that currently universities are not like cruise ships, but like business organizations that are being hit by the changing world. This change is so fast, that adaptations and improvisations must always be made in order to survive.
“The four challenges of today’s leaders are dismantling the barriers of sectoral egos, pride in self or group identities, and upholding their own interests above larger interests which become walls for coordination and collaboration,” said Prof. Seger.
The third professor, Prof. Darmawan Setijanto, is the 29th active Professor of Faculty of Dental Medicine. In his scientific oration, the professor of Public Dental Health said that through Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and machine learning, research on dental health and epidemiology was able to eliminate statistical assumptions and bias.
“Science and research which initially applies locally, will find it easier to find generalizations that are closer to real results. In addition, this technology is able to study cross-border fields as well as knowledge based on emotional and norms, ” Prof. Darmawan said.
The fourth professor, Prof. Dwikora, is the 114th active Professor of Faculty of Medicine. The professor of Orthopedics and Traumatology delivered a scientific oration entitled “Towards Independence in Comprehensive Knee Injury Management”.
Prof. Dwikora and team have developed a new technique called UNAIR-Soetomo Technique. The technique is considered beneficial in terms of aesthetics and for postoperative recovery for athletic patients with knee injuries.
This effort is a tangible form of independence in design and production by cooperating with domestic industries, so they can be obtained at affordable prices.
The fifth professor, Prof. Hendrian Dwikoloso, is the 115th active Professor of Faculty of Medicine. The professor in the field of eye health science in his scientific oration described his research on the role of biomolecular and artificial intelligence in detecting retinoblastoma eye cancer in the new normal era.
Prof. Hendrian developed application and research for early detection of diseases in the eye based on eye photos by utilizing Artificial Intelligence technology. This application uses early detection tools for eye diseases in the form of photographs or eye images.
For your information, this October UNAIR Rector has inaugurated 14 professors. On October 8 there were four professors, October 14 there were five professors, and October 21 there were five professors. The inauguration of professors was attended by a limited invited guests by implementing strict health protocols. (*)
