Every parent wants their kids to be smart and successful. Listening and experiencing music stimulates the fetus’ brain and assists with the growth of brain structure. Music increases the unborn child’s intelligence, and sound stimulation enhances the brain’s maturation.

In theory, intelligence depends not only on genetic factors but also on the environment. Among the efforts to increase brain growth and development is the provision of adequate nutrition and stimulation during pregnancy. However, it is unfortunate that Indonesian people focused on providing nutrients. The combination of food and stimulation is one way to improve the quality of the brain.

The most easily accepted stimulus for the fetus is music because it is the most harmonious combination of sounds. Classical music has been shown to improve brain function optimally. Of the many classical kinds of music, Mozart’s music is one that has caught the attention of the public. Several studies have proven that the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) has the most positive effects on the development of fetuses, babies and children. Giving stimulation to Mozart’s music during pregnancy is known to produce a potential parameter of intelligence, namely an increase in the number of brain cells.

Various efforts have been made to prepare a smarter generation. For example, genetic engineering, genius male sperm donation, and artificial intelligence. However, these efforts sometimes conflict with morals and ethics. So in this study, we want to know the differences in the number of brain cells in newborn Rattus norvegicus to exposure to various types of western music such as Mozart, Jazz, Blues, and Rock music during pregnancy. This study aims to find the best type of western music that provides the most optimal effect in increasing the number of brain cells of children while in the womb.

In this study, we used experimental animal samples in the form of female Rattus norvegicus (130-180 grams) as a substitute for pregnant women so that ethics did not obstruct them in their implementation. The research subjects were divided into four treatment groups, such as Mozart, Jazz, Blues, and Rock music exposure group. Each treatment was carried out from the 10th day of pregnancy for 1 hour in a dark atmosphere with a music intensity of 60 dB and a distance of 25 cm from the exposure box. On the 19th day of pregnancy, a healthy female Rattus norvegicus stomach was surgically removed for the chicks to be removed. Immediately after birth, the child’s brain tissue is taken, and preparation is made. Using a particular stain, the preparations were viewed under a light microscope at 1000x magnification, and the number of brain cells in each group was counted. The data were recorded and analyzed statistically, which was the largest number of brain cells. The research process was carried out in the experimental animal cages of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Universitas Airlangga Surabaya and Laboratory of Pathology Anatomy, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya.

Apart from counting the number of brain cells in each exposure group, we also calculated the number of brain cells in each hemisphere (right and left) in each exposure group. The calculation with five fields of view of the right and left brain. Thus, it can be seen which part of the brain is thought to have a more substantial influence on thinking and intelligence processes.

The results of this study indicate that exposure to Mozart’s music provides the highest number of brain cells compared to other western music, such as Jazz, Blues, and Rock with significant differences. The calculations in each hemisphere of the brain showed that the left hemisphere produced a higher number of brain cells than the right in each group, but did not show a significant difference.

From this research, it can be concluded that efforts to prepare children’s potential intelligence can be made from an early age through stimulation, in addition to providing nutrition. The stimulus from the environment that is easiest, most effective, inexpensive, does not conflict with morals, and gives good results compared to other types of western music is Mozart’s music. Mozart’s stimulation of music since pregnancy has been shown to have an optimal effect on children’s brain growth and development. The nature or mechanism of this effect is not certain. But researchers suspect that the clarity, majesty, rhythm, melody and high frequency of this music can stimulate the creative and motivational areas of the brain to calm listeners and carry out the cell growth process.

Based on the evidence of this research, it is hoped that it can provide knowledge to the Indonesian people, especially pregnant women, that the provision of stimuli during pregnancy has an essential role in preparing the potential for children’s intelligence.
