UNAIR NEWS – There has been a transition of leadership in Universitas Airlangga. Some are still continuing their mandate, but some positions are passed to the next officials, such as Vice Rector IV which has become Vice Rector for Internationalization, Digitalization and Information.

Muhammad Miftahussurur, dr. M.Kes., Sp.PD-KGEH., Ph.D., or known as dr. Miftah, is the new official who will assume the mandate as Vice Rector for Internationalization, Digitalization and Information for the period 2020-2025. In an interview with UNAIR NEWS a week after being inaugurated on August 4, 2020, dr. Miftah said that he has completed undergraduate, professional, master, and specialist education at his beloved alma mater, UNAIR.

“I completed all my studies in UNAIR, graduated in 2003 from FK UNAIR, in 2007 from Master of Administration and Health Policy FKM UNAIR, and in 2011 from UNAIR Internal Medicine Specialist program as well,” he said.

Asked about his inspiring life journey, he said that from lots of plans made, God’s plan is the best. In his educational journey, for example, dr. Miftah said that he initially wanted to become a general practitioner, but God’s will led him to continue his studies despite his limitations.

“Finally, in many plans that have been laid out, we still follow the best path given by God,” he said. “In fact, it happened during my studies until I could study abroad,” he added.

Bring Changes

Regarding the mandate he now holds, the physician who took his doctorate degree in Japan emphasized that he would try to bring many changes for the better. In terms of internationalization, he said, in the future it will not only take place in the field of education, but all aspects of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. In fact, he said, in the medium term of internationalization programs that have been implemented could have an impact on UNAIR’s position and society.

“For the long term, of course these efforts can further realize our dream to be great through UNAIR HEBAT,” he said.

Meanwhile, to realize UNAIR to be a Smart University, he has plans to reform the Directorate of Information Systems and Digitalization. According to him, so that Directorate of Information Systems and Digitalization do not apply top down management, it is necessary to build a mindset and a sense of shared responsibility.

“When we want to realize a Smart University, DSI and Digitalization will play a key role. Thus, all elements must be able to carry out their best, “he explained.

He continued, it would have no value without the support of data that could be analyzed as study material. For this reason, the optimization of both must be strongly strengthened so when the data is reviewed the result can be immediately implemented.

At the end, dr. Miftah also emphasized the role of public relations, branding, and marketing. According to him, even though UNAIR has done many things, without the role and touch of public relations, it would have no value.

“Therefore, with strategies and strengthening various existing potentials, UNAIR will be better. And the dream of becoming a Smart University and UNAIR HEBAT will come true, “he concluded.
