UNAIR NEWS – A sense of pride and emotion radiated from the eyes of Widya Permata Sari, who was chosen as the representative of graduates to deliver a speech at the first session of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) graduation ceremony on Sunday, September 20, 2020. At Garuda Mukti Hall 5th floor Management Office Campus C UNAIR, the Faculty of Law graduate said that going through a graduation amid pandemic is not an easy thing as graduates cannot celebrate by shaking hands, hugging, and throwing a toga with other friends as a sign of their studies’ completion.

“But of all the ceremonial events, the most important thing is the meaning of our struggle during the course of the studies. This is what makes us, class of 2020, a special generation, ” she said.

Widya said that being a student at one of the best Indonesian universities has brought an extraordinary experience. During her studies, she learned a lot about the meaning of a struggle, perseverance, sacrifice, ethics, and consequences.

“There is no achievement without a struggle, there is no result without a process. What we have now is a reflection of the struggles so far,” she said.

Widya, representing other graduates, thanked the entire UNAIR academic community, family, and friends who played a supporting role in their struggles until the graduation day.

“One important thing that you need to remember is that this pandemic is not a barrier to make achievements. In fact, this should be a point to continue, develop and work in line with the motto, Excellence with Morality,” she stated.

Graduate speech in the second session was delivered by Anugrah Visar Rahmah. The student of Faculty of Public Health reminded the graduates to the goal of being a student, to reach the dream of becoming an expert in their respective fields who are reliable, superior, with integrity, and high morality. Therefore, according to him, the moment of graduation has paid off all the sorrows and struggles.

“Congratulations because we together have reached the peak of our struggle filled with joy and sorrow,” he said.

However, Visar also said that graduation is the starting point of a new journey to achieve success. He said that the feeling of joy at this graduation moment is not eternal, considering that there are still many challenges that must be faced in the future.

“Keep the spirits up for the next phase of life. Don’t be a human being who merely lives, as in fact plants and animals also live, but bring values and benefits to fellow humans, “he emphasized.

In the end, Visar also thanked parents and families who always supported every step of the way with prayers. He also thanked all academics and all organizational institutions in UNAIR who had given him many life experiences.
