UNAIR NEWS – Starting the new academic year, various lecture activities were held again, one of the activities is the new students’ orientation. Amid pandemic, Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) welcomed new students by conducting online orientation.

Faculty of Public Health’s orientation activity known as SEHAT (Festive Orientation of Public Health Students) was held successfully for two days on Friday-Saturday, September 4-5, 2020 using Zoom meeting app. There were 430 new students admitted through SNMPTN, SBMPTN and independent admission participating in the orientation activity.

Nur Sahila, Head of SEHAT 2020 said that the success of the orientation activity could not be separated from the cooperation of the entire committee and support of the Dean. She revealed that internet connection is the biggest obstacle for implementing new student orientation.

“The obstacles during activities are mostly caused by unstable connections, both from the committee and new students,” said the Head of SEHAT 2020.

With “The Spirit of Participation, Together Synergizing, Building Generation with High Standard of Morality” as tagline, the orientation is expected to instill positive values such as participation and contribution during college. Even though it was conveyed online, Hila was sure that these values can be conveyed well to new students.

“We (the orientation committee, ed) tried to introduce positive values and conveyed them properly to new students,” she added.

As the head of the activity, Hila was reluctant as the implementation of online new student orientation was the first time in history. However, thanks to the support of various parties, Hila became optimistic and still had the courage to take steps in making decisions.

“Initially I had doubts about whether SEHAT could be implemented online. I was also afraid that, for example, SEHAT would be canceled,” said the student from class of 2018.

As closing statement, Hila hoped that through SEHAT 2020 activity, new students will have an overview of campus life and can get to know Faculty of Public Health better. He also hoped that the good values or culture in FKM can be applied by new students.
