UNAIR NEWS – Student Executive Board (BEM) of Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) through the community service department has successfully held online training for pre-clinical FKG students. The agenda runs from 23 August 2020 to 2 September 2020. Online training activities are carried out to support FKG preclinical students to deepen certain subjects as well as provision for social service.

Canino Cahya as the head of the event explained that the implementation of online training is expected to be a reference for the committee in carrying out teleconsultation social services. The plan is that the teleconsultation will be held on August 30 and September 3, 2020.

“Teleconsultation is part of the Dentistry Charity event for 11th year,” he said on Saturday, August 29.

Teleconsultation is a social service activity in the form of consultation online. Later, the target community can be consulted regarding oral health. The activity was collaborated with FKG UNAIR alumnus as a companion doctor.

During the training, the speaker provided basic dentistry material as a guide for the participant. The goal is that the committee can carry out teleconsultation properly and professionally, such as conservation, oral surgery, and periodontics. Moreover, 120 FKG UNAIR preclinical students attended online training and were divided into 12 groups.

Meanwhile, Annisa Fitria Sari as the head of Community Service Department BEM FKG UNAIR said that usually the training was carried out offline. The implementation is done in groups accompanied by dental professional students.

“The goal is to help directly monitor the participants’ understanding of teleconsultation social services material. In fact, some materials are more effective to carry out offline, ”she explained.

However, continued Annisa, it was easier to adjust the time of the speakers and participants online. Moreover, if the event is held regularly  with face to face then you have to wait for the speaker to help the patient first and sometimes it can be finished  late at night.

The series of online training events includes a pretest, material explanation, question and answer, practicum (displaying a video of the procedure), post-test, and evaluation in each session, there are approximately 4 sessions. Apart from being useful for provisions to carry out teleconsultation, online training is expected to make it easier for participants. Mainly in understanding past and future courses.

“The material is filled by dentist education professional students. The reason is because they have met and handled patients directly, “he said.

In addition, COAS students have more experience than pre-clinical students. Moreover, the age range is also not far and participants will not be afraid when they want to ask questions.

“Hopefully, this kind of activity will always benefit others and bring happiness to all circles,” concluded Annisa. (*)
