New dental specialists expected to define professional devotion and sacrifice amid pandemic

UNAIR NEWS – The Faculty of Dental Medicine (FKG) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) inaugurates and takes the oath of new dental medicine specialists. Held online via the zoom platform, the ceremony held on Thursday, July 30, 2020 taking the oath of 36 dental medicine specialists who were ready to go into the community. They were from dental conservation, oral disease, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and prostodontics specialists.

The oath taking ceremony was attended by several stakeholders, such as UNAIR Vice Rector IV Prof. Junaidi Khotib, S.Si., M. Kes., Ph.D., Apt .; UNAIR Dental Hospital Representative Prof. Coen Pramono D. drg., SU., Sp.BM (K) FICS; Head of FKG UNAIR Alumni Association drg. RA Nora Lelyana, M.H.Kes., F.I.C.D; and the leaderships and staff of FKG UNAIR.

Reinold Christian Lina as the representative said that the dentist profession is a mandate and humanitarian mission. Reinold reminded his professional colleagues that taking oaths online will not reduce the evidence of the extraordinary achievements of students, parents, and teaching staff.

On the other hand, both Dean of FKG Dr. Darmawan Setijanto, drg., M. Kes., and Vice Rector IV UNAIR reminded that the dentist profession occupies a fundamental position in achieving Indonesia’s national health.

“Since 1990, FKG UNAIR has inaugurated 1,108 dentists. You are all part of a tough and extraordinary graduates. In your service later, maintain the good name of the alma mater and the dental profession wherever you are. Always hold the value of excellence with morality, “he said.

Meanwhile Prof. Junaidi Khotib revealed that in the future UNAIR’s new dentists must be able to define the nuances of professional service and sacrifice in the health sector. Dentists must always uphold the oath and code of ethics amid national health emergency.

“You are the vanguard. Hold integrity, uphold humanity, and preserve the dignity, tradition and pride of dentists. Let us expand the role of UNAIR in developing the country, “he explained.

Prof. Coen and drg. Nora., also expressed their concern about the role of dentists in the field. Both mentioned that dentists are the most vulnerable to be infected with Covid-19 virus. Therefore they must remember to always comply with existing health protocols.
