UNAIR NEWS – Pandemic Covid-19 did not discourage students from Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) to serve the community through 62nd Community Service Program (KKN) coordinated by Community Service and Development Institute (LPPM). Students carried out activities by applying the health protocols in each of their work programs.

This time there was a story from eight Universitas Airlangga students carrying out KKN in Tambakrejo Village, Gurah Subdistrict, Kediri Regency. The Community Service Program Group 212 was chaired by Muhammad Sya’ban Irawan, a Pharmacy student at UNAIR. One of the work programs of MAHESA (Erlangga Surabaya Student), the name of their Community Service Program team, is to carry out a dissemination of fish-eating habit in Darul Aitam Budi Mulia Orphanage.

Himna Sayyidatul Islamiyah, a Fishery Product Technology student, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK), was responsible for the program. Himna said that the aim of the program was to promote fish eating habit from an early age by introducing orphans to processed fish products, such as fishball , fish nuggets, samosas, fish rolls and other processed fish products.

The dissemination was carried out by presenting an animated video. Then, there was a fish guessing game. If the orphans answer correctly they will get a gift from the KKN group. They are enthusiastic and happy to taste the processed fish provided by MAHESA.

The program adhered to health protocols, by wearing masks from both students and orphans and keeping a safe distance. The activity was carried out well and the orphanage children were happy to take part in the dissemination of fish eathing habit held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 10:00 to 13:00 WIB.

In the dissemination, Himna said that the previous idea of MAHESA’s activity was cooking with mothers of Tambakrejo Village, but due to the pandemic, the concept was changed by conducting dissemination and fun games for orphans.

“In this condition, it is not possible, Insyaallah, the substance to promote fish eating habit is achieved,” he added.

Himna explained that the residents of the orphanage were children who were still in their infancy and development. “So we want to share the importance of eating fish early on,” she concluded. (*)
