UNAIR NEWS – Entering the new normal during Covid-19 pandemic, people face new challenges in several aspects of the professional world. Human and Resources (HR) and employees are required to adapt to new work patterns.

In response, Lecturer of Industrial Psychology and the Organization Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Airlangga (FPsi UNAIR) Dimas Aryo Wicaksono, S. Psi., M. Sc., explained companies and employees must make some changes. In Human Capital Webinar: Preparing HC for New Normal and Beyond on Sunday, June 2, he revealed that companies and employees must have a mutual commitment in terms of the economy and health.

“The new normal phase is a new challenge for companies and employees to care for one another, especially in health issues,” he said.

Aryo added that the company is demanded to balance the company’s economy with employee health. With this balance, companies and employees can survive the crisis in the long run.

Not only companies but employees are also required to be more adaptive to changes such as the development of technology skills and health discipline. Aryo emphasized that employee health is not only related to physical problems but also mental health.

“HR for companies is a valuable asset that must be safeguarded and should be guaranteed with a commitment,” he said.

In contrast to Aryo, Coordinator of Master of Management Study Program Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) Dr. Gancar Candra Premananto, SE., M. Si., stated that new normal phase is a time to change and adapt. According to him, changes in the world of work will bring new adjustments such as leave.

“We will see new adjustments such as sick leave will appear due to the flu,” he explained.

The company must do long-term thinking to survive in the new normal phase. Companies that cannot change, and innovate will slowly collapse.

Gancar also revealed that the value of being ready to evolve must be applied early on for companies and employees. Employee mapping is currently an alternative for a company to keep running the economy.

Work from Home (WFH) recommended by the government, according to him, is a new challenge for companies to be more responsive to technology and work habits. Indirectly, WFH has changed working hours more flexibly in place and time.

“I estimate health protocols and technological capabilities to be the new way of working even in the long run of the professional world,” he concluded.
